  1. oh jobs in alberta are booming in ALL cities. don't worry, you'll find something. especially with 9 years experience.  Start with monster.ca and workopolis.ca  it'll start you off with some good leads sometimes.  Go to google and search "rent house" and the city name and you'll find all sorts of rental sites.  that's how we found our apartment.

Don't be worried, there is such a boom in alberta, I haven't heard of a single person I know who's gone out there and not succeeded. (and I know a LOT of people who've moved out there).

Good luck! contact me through my profile if you have any more questions. I'll try to help.

  2. I live in GP.  It's not so bad.  Our neighbourhood is completely safe.  Lived here for 5 years and have never had any issues.  I think if you want to find trouble, you will, but we have had no problems.

I know that the college is usually looking for IT help so it would be worth applying there, in my opinion.  I don't think you'd have problems finding work in the city.   www.gprc.ab.ca

Grande Cache is a great small town.  Beautiful surroundings.  Really isolated.  In my opinion, it is a great place to visit but I would not want to live there.

GP is expensive to live in and very busy with the booming oil industry.  It definitely has it's good and bad points.  All in all it's not so bad.  I'm not sure of rental prices but I've heard stories of about $2000/month for a house.  We pay roughly $1000/month for our mortgage (3 bedroom house).

    Hope this helps!

  3. Grande Prairie is a city of around 60,000 people. It's a fairly expensive place to live with all the oil and gas activity in the area. Services and shopping are on par with much larger cities to the south - just without the crowds. Commercial air service is available in GP, as well as Greyhound bus service.

Grande Cache is not a city - it's a town with a population of approximately 4000 people about two hours south of Grande Prairie, and is located on the edge of the Canadian Rockies. The town is surrounded by mountains and the scenery is wonderful. Many people who move to Grande Cache consider the town a little isolated (the closest town to GC is Hinton - 145km to the south). Services can be a little limited especially for someone moving here from a larger centre. But Grande Prairie is only two hours away and many of us drive there for our shopping. Rents are rather high; for a house you could be looking at $1000-1500 and up. Condos aren't much cheaper. Housing prices tend to be a bit on the high side, but single family homes are available from just over $200,000 (the lower priced ones may need some work). There is a bus service available to connect the town with both Grande Prairie and Hinton.

I wouldn't think there's much chance of finding work in the IT field in Grande Cache.  The major employers here are a coal mine, a lumber mill, a federal prison, and oil & gas industries.

Feel free to contact me through my profile if you've got any more questions about Grande Cache (or even Grande Prairie).

  4. Grand Prairie is rough..good luck. Be worried where ever you end up living it will be expensive and gross. Change the locks on your doors the second you move in. Stay away from the bars and the local strip clubs. Dont go out at night. Stay away from Dawson Creek while there. Lots of drugs floating around too. Lots of drugs.
