Miguel Angel Garcia-Celestino Caballero bout close to getting finalised - Boxing News
Miguel Angel Garcia, the current WBO NABO and NABF featherweight champion, will most probably take on Celestino Caballero, the current WBA World featherweight champion, in a 12-round bout which will be held on July 28, 2012.
The finalisation of the deal between both parties is still awaited and at the moment only Garcia has signed the contract. Celestino, despite receiving the contract has not yet signed it and no news or comments are available from him or his camp.
The update was put forth by Cameron Dunkin, manager Miguel Angel Garcia. The bout between above two pugilists is considered as somewhat a mandatory one since Garcia recently qualified to take on Celestino for his title.
Dunkin stated, “Mikey signed the contract yesterday (Wednesday) and then we sent it in to (Top Rank lawyer) Dan (Pancheri), who sent it to Sampson. Mikey is more than ready for this opportunity.”
Angel, 24, has been in a total 28 bouts and boasts an undefeated streak. The young American proud has never lost even a single bout and has impressively pinned 24 of his opponents by knocking the opponent out cold.
Also known as ‘Mickey Garcia’, Miguel recently collected some heavy duty wins by pinning Rafael Guzman, Juan Carlos Martinez, and Bernabe Concepcion, all three by knockout.
His most probable next opponent, Celestino, if he signs the contract and accepts the challenge in written, has an upper hand over Angel. Also known as ‘Pelenchin’, the Panamanian proud has been in a total 40 bouts and boasts 36 wins.
The 35-year-old veteran has nailed 23 of his opponents by knockout and is undoubtedly a far better pugilist then Garcia. The only facet that somewhat tarnishes the champion’s resume is his four career losses as compared to Garcia’s undefeated streak.
If a bird’s eye view of the above two brawler’s resume, stats or technicalities is taken, even then Celestino has a clear upper hand. Celestino possesses a huge height advantage which enables him to cover a substantial area as compared to Garcia who is 5
inches shorter than the Panamanian champion.
In addition, Celestino has just started his two-bout win streak after receiving two consecutive losses therefore he cannot afford any other loss. In addition, Celestino will enter in his third title defence bout and will definitely put forth a seriously
tough competition to the young surging Angel.
The bout will be a toe-to-toe one and will mesmerise the whole crowd the only hindrance is the fact that Celestino has not yet signed the agreement. Once it is signed the engagement will be final.
The ring for the bout will be set up at Fantasy Springs Casino in Indianapolis, California, United States and the event is being promoted by the duo of Sampson Lewkowicz of Sampson Boxing LLC and Oscar De La Hoya of Golden Boy Promotions.
