Miguel Angel Jiménez is aiming to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the first ever European Tour win by Spanish, Antonio Garrido, with a victory in the Ballantine's Championship at the Blackstone Golf Club, Icheon, Korea.
Forty years back, Garrido earned the first European title for his country after defeating Valentin Barriso in the Open de España.
Thereafter, a total of 163 wins came in the Spaniards’ way, that also include 18 by Jiménez himself.
He appeared in last year’s edition of the Ballantine's Championship and lost to Lee Westwood with a one-stroke deficit.
This year, he is optimistic about improving his performance in the event and record the 165th European Tour victory by a Spanish player.
He said that he is pleased to return to the field where he recorded an impressive performance last year. According to him, he was not disappointed by the defeat as it came against the then world number one player.
Jiménez carded a one-under par 71 in the final round last year. He believes that his putting was responsible for his defeat in the event, as he missed several to settle for an average score in the end.
“I played quite well on the last day, but the putts didn't drop” he said. “I left myself with a difficult bunker shot on the last hole and didn't manage to get up and down, but it was still a good week and a great experience".
He is now hoping to create his own blend of the Whiskey as the winner of each edition of the tournament gets the honour to create one.
"As everyone knows, I enjoy life - I like drinking and smoking cigars," he said. "I really enjoyed some 30 year old whisky at the Ballantine's last year, and hopefully this year I will be able to make my own special blend as the winner of the tournament".
Meanwhile, some of the top-ranked European players also have committed to play the event at the Blackstone Golf Course.
Therefore, he will have to remain consistent throughout the four rounds in order to celebrate the anniversary as he wants.
