Miguel Angel Jiménez returns to the field of the KLM Open after nine years
Miguel Angel Jiménez is set to return to the field of the KLM Open, when he will tee off at the Hilversumsche Golf Club, on Thursday, September 6, 2012. It will be his first appearance in the tournament in nine years, as he made his last appearance in 2003.
Last week, he recorded a strong finish at the Omega European Masters and is confident to keep the momentum going into this week’s €1.8million event.
It is the same event that witnessed him record the second European Tour victory of his career in 1994. Therefore, he expressed his pleasure on being back at the field, where he enjoyed success in the past.
According to him, he considered making a return many times in the past few years. However, tight schedules in different parts of the world restrained him to make a comeback in the event.
"It is nice to be back. I won here in 1994 and it has been tough to come back because of the number of tournaments we play in the year," he said. "My second victory on Tour was here, so it is nice”.
Recently, he missed the chance to qualify for the European Ryder Cup team. Yet, he managed to make it into the event as one of four Vice Captains hired by José María Olazábal.
According to Jiménez, he has been striking the ball well, for the last few weeks. On the contrary, he struggled with his putter in the last couple of months.
Therefore, he brought some changes in his putting technique, by changing the position of his hands on the putter. As a result, he witnessed some improvements, which may help him to contend strongly in the Netherlands.
"Last week I changed the position of my hands and they started rolling,” the 18-time European Tour winner said.
"I love what I do in my life. I give everything to golf and golf gives me everything in my life. We are a good marriage. I enjoy myself doing what I am doing. I still feel something inside when I go to the first tee”.
