Miguel Angel Jimenez, Brett Rumford in the lead at Ballantine’s Championship – Golf news
Spanish golfer Miguel Angel Jimenez and Australian Brett Rumford are leading after rain suspended third round of the Ballantine’s Championship.
Taking place at the Blackstone Golf course in Icheon, the Ballantine’s Championship was suspended due to bad weather. Due to the pouring rain and lightning, the players had to leave the course.
As of now, Rumford and Jimenez are both leading at ten under par overall after playing their front-nine holes. Jimenez moved up one place as he was in second place on Friday. The Spaniard made an amazing start to the day as he made consecutive birdies on
the first and second holes. With the Ryder Cup player’s approach being within four feet, he made another birdie on the eighth hole from 15 feet.
Jimenez was satisfied with his first nine as there were no bogeys. With the players having to play 27 holes in the final round, Jimenez said it would be a marathon and he was looking forward to it.
As for the other leader, Rumford who went into the third round with a three shot lead only made a level par on the front-nine. He made a bogey on the seventh hole only to recover with a birdie on the eighth.
As compared to Friday, the front-nine holes were not that impressive since he made five birdies in them in the second round. Overall, avoiding bogeys, Rumford still remained in control of his game.
“That was some tricky pins out there today,” said Rumford. “They were placed up on the top part of all the tiers and ridges, and it was pretty tricky trying to get on the right tier. You had to be very, very precise. But stayed patient, hit some nice golf
shots but unfortunately just kept hitting nice golf shots to about 40, 50 feet.”
World number one Lee Westwood made two under par after playing twelve holes in the third round. Making two birdies on the first and second holes, Westwood is now at six under par overall. Being four shots off the pace, he would surely need to work hard in
order to win the title.
The third round of the Ballantine’s Championship will resume on Sunday.
