Miguel Angel Jimenez and Brett Rumford share the clubhouse lead at Ballantine’s Championship
The third round of the Ballantine’s Championship continues more exciting golf. The third day started as the weather conditions continued to be overcast. Play was suspended as the leader flight, which included Miguel Angel Jimenez of Spain and overnight leader
Brett Rumford, only played their first nine holes.
They were sent back to the clubhouse as the tournament organizers had to suspend play due to the overcast conditions and bad light. Now both these leaders will play their final nine-holes of the third round once the play starts. Both the players are the
clubhouse leaders and they are tied for the lead having a score of ten-under par after the half day of third round.
Jimenez moved up on the leader board as he continued his dominance on the course. He played some great golf shots during his round and his putting was superb. The Spaniard is three-under par after playing his first nine holes and had started his day tied
for the second spot.
The veteran Jimenez had an excellent start to his third round. He made two consecutive birdies on his first two holes and looked in great touch with his putting stroke. The 47-year-old had a total of three birdies during his first nine holes.
Now that Jimenez is tied for the lead, he looked confident as he walked back to the clubhouse. He made a crucial long birdie putt on the par-4, 8th as he joined the overnight leader Rumford.
As for the overnight leader Rumford, he looked a bit under pressure as he was playing the third round being the leader. The Australian was hitting the ball well off the tee but was wayward on the par-3, 7th where his approach shot landed in the
greenside bunker. He instantly recovered from his lost stroke as he made birdie on par-4, 8th.
The 33-year-old Rumford has been putting well during the tournament. He had a long par save on the par-3 where his ball was short of the hole by a couple of inches. Rumford played good golfing shots during his first nine-holes but his putter was not helping
him.
There were heavy downpours and the tournament organizers had to suspend play and World Number one, Lee Westwood, was through twelve holes and was two-under. Westwood only made two birdies and is slowly making a charge on the leader board.
