Miguel Angel Jimenez finishes on the 5th spot at the Ballantine's Championship
Miguel Angel Jimenez shot a 3-under 69 in the final round of the Ballantine's Championship, finishing tied for the 5th position.
The last year's runner-up was hoping to climb to the top of the leaderboard, but was unable to compete well at the Blackstone Golf Club, Icheon in Seoul, South Korea.
He started the European Tour tournament at par, shooting a 72 in the first round and aimed to be impressive from Friday.
The 48-year-old Spanish professional golf player fulfilled his desires and scored a 4-under par in the second round by shooting four massive birdies and by playing a bogey-free round.
He boosted his performance and added three more birdies on the leaderboard. He was again successful in scoring well on Saturday, by not carding any bogey.
"I played very well today. Played very solid tee to green," Jimenez said on Saturday. "Made a few birdies no bogeys... That was my game today".
He added, “You know, I had 32 putts in a three-under bogey-free round. So I had many, many chances for birdie. Three, four, five metres all the time. But you need to hole those. I hit it very good from the tees but you need to hole putts”.
After three rounds, he was confident to gain a lead. He shared that he will try his level best on Sunday. He was aiming to display a decent performance in the final round.
"Tomorrow, I tell you, I will try to do the same thing as today and hope I can improve on the greens," he said.
He tried to do his level best and made three birdies and one bogey throughout the day. He finished the tournament by scoring a 10-under 278 and tied for the 5th position.
Jimenez finished eight strokes behind the leader Bernd Wiesberger, who scored an 18-under 270 and won his first European Tour title in South Korea.
Wiesberger amazed his fans and Tour officials by registering three consecutive bogey-free rounds. He scored 72, 65, 65 and 78 throughout the four days.
The 2012 Ballantine's Championship is over now. Wiesberger is the proud winner, whereas Jimenez was unable to fulfil his desire to become the victor.
