Miguel Angel Jimenez is hoping to win the Ballantine's Championship
Miguel Angel Jimenez, who is in the field of the Ballantine's Championship, is hopeful to finish the event on top of the leaderboard.
The 48-year-old Spanish professional golf player has recently arrived in South Korea and is getting ready to reach the Blackstone Golf Club, Icheon in Seoul.
Lee Westwood is the defending champion of the European Tour event, whereas Jimenez finished on the runner-up position in 2011.
Jimenez scored an 11-under 277 last year and finished one stroke behind the leader. He was very upset after losing the tournament with a one-stroke margin. Now, he is aiming to improve his leaderboard position by recording a victory.
"It will be nice to go back to Blackstone and try to go one better than last year. It was obviously disappointing to miss out on the win, but you can never be too upset when you’re beaten by the world number one," Jimenez said
He added, “I played quite well on the last day, but the putts didn’t drop. I left myself with a difficult bunker shot on the last hole and didn’t manage to get up and down, but it was still a good week and a great experience”.
Jimenez started the 2011 Ballantine's Championship in an impressive style. He played a bogey-free first round and shot two massive birdies.
Then in the second round, he improved his position, as he scored seven birdies and just two bogeys. In the next round, he continued his appealing performance and added a -3 to the leaderboard scores by making four birdies and one bogey.
He only faced difficulty while scoring in the final round and scored a -1. He carded three birdies, but two bogeys took a toll on his overall standing.
Jimenez is an 18-time European Tour winner. He recorded his last win in 2010, and has finished several tournaments in the top-10 since then.
Now, he is eyeing the upcoming tournament, scheduled to be staged in Asia. He said that he has high plans to record at least one win in every region.
“It’s always nice to win titles around the world” Jimenez said after reaching the Ballantine's Championship field.
He is confident and wants to be on top of the upcoming event in South Korea. Observers said that he has what it takes to compete well, and can finish as the runner-up at the tournament.
