Miguel Angel Jimenez shares the lead at the UBS Hong Kong Open
Miguel Angel Jimenez stormed to the top of the leaderboard, at the UBS Hong Kong Open, following his third round performance for a two-under par on 68, on Saturday, November 17, 2012.
Jimenez, who carded a five-under par 65, continued his reviving form in the second round and posted a bogey-free three-under par 67.
Entering the weekend, he was eight-under par for the tournament. The Spaniard got off to a slow start on Saturday, as he parred each of the first nine holes that he played.
He then picked up pace and carded birdies on the 10th and the 13th hole, to finish the day on top of the leaderboard.
“It's a little boring the first nine holes, no pars, no birdies, nothing happened there,” he said. “A few chances for birdies, first, second, and then the fourth, fifth. But you know, I was playing well, hitting well, not putting very, very close to the
hole, I have to say that, too”.
Talking to the Asian Tour’s official website, the Spaniard expressed his disappointment about not availing a number of birdie opportunities that he created during the third round.
At the same time, he was happy with the efforts he made to save the par on the last hole that he played.
Talking about the course conditions, he said that the wind was blowing hard and it was difficult for the players to play accurate shots.
Moreover, the difficult layout of the greens also created troubles for the participants at the Hong Kong Country Club.
“It's been a long time since I've been there and I'm happy and I like this golf course,” he said. “I like to be in contention on this golf course and you have to have patience and let everything happen. And that's what's going to happen tomorrow, stay patient
because anyone can win”.
Michael Campbell, in the meantime, maintained his position on top of the leaderboard and shared the first position with Jimenez. He carded a one-under par 69 for a 10-under par overall score.
Matteo Manassero, the winner of last week’s Barclays Singapore Open, made a strong charge on the leaderboard by posting an impressive six-under par 64. He shared the second position with Chinese Lian-Wei Zhang.
