Miguel Angel Jimenez shoots 68 in the second round, trying to win the Ballantine’s Championship
Last year's runner-up Miguel Angel Jimenez scored a 4-under 68 in the second round of the Ballantine’s Championship.
Like several other professional players in the field, he also faced difficulties scoring in the first round. The reason behind his below-average score was the bad and unfavourable weather conditions on Thursday.
With cold and strong winds sweeping through the course, most of the players found it hard to stay focused. Jimenez finished equal to par in the first round by scoring two birdies and two bogeys.
Despite facing tough weather challenges, he was at par on the rest of the 14 holes and did not display a poor performance.
The 48-year-old Spanish professional golf player amazed the spectators, his fans and other players by finishing the bogey-free second round impressively.
He started the round early in the morning and made a quick start, by scoring two birdies on the 2nd and 3rd hole.
Then he further improved his leaderboard position by hitting two more birdies on the back nine holes of the Blackstone Golf Club, Icheon in Seoul, South Korea.
Jimenez reached among the top-5 players of the tournament, staged by the European Tour. Before the tournament, the Spaniard said that he desires to win the title, and he is working to achieve his aims now.
“It will be nice to go back to Blackstone and try to go one better than last year,” he said before teeing off the tournament. “It was obviously disappointing to miss out on the win, but you can never be too upset when you’re beaten by the world number one”.
He added, “I played quite well on the last day, but the putts didn’t drop. I left myself with a difficult bunker shot on the last hole and didn’t manage to get up and down, but it was still a good week and a great experience”.
Jimenez finished three strokes behind the current leader Bernd Wiesberger, in the second round of the €2,205,000 event.
Wiesberger also displayed a superb performance on Friday. He scored seven impressive birdies and played a bogey-free round as well.
The tournament has entered into a tough battle, and all the players are striving to win the title in South Korea.
Jimenez has to make some extra efforts on Saturday, so that he can achieve what he planned before teeing off in the event.
