Miguel Angel Nino Corredo wins fourth stage of 2011 International Azerbaijan Tour - Cycling News
Letua Cycling team's Miguel Angel Nino showed an excellent performance in the fourth stage of 2011 International Azerbaijan Tour on May 18. The race started in Shabestar and ended at Orumiyeh.
The Colombia cyclist, Miguel covered the distance of 185 kilometres in 3 hours, 33 minutes and 44 seconds.
In the closing kilometres of the race, Letua Cycling team kept the race under control and the 42-year-old Miguel powered to cross the finish-line ahead of the race leader Mehdi Sohrabi of the Tabriz Petrochemical team with 30 seconds behind Miguel.
The Iranian cyclist, Olamaei Mahdi and Behnam Maleki were also in good form and came third and fourth spot in the stage, respectively.
Hamid Shirisisan (Suren Cycling Team), Alexey Lyalko and Merey Khakankman (Kazakhstan National Team) were in fifth, sixth and seventh spot, respectively.
The third stage winner, Markus Eichler tried his best to overtake the peloton, but he failed and grabbed the 11th position.
The ninety-five cyclists took part in the race, but the three cyclists Jacob Fiedler, Mohammad Zangi Abadi and Tobias Erler were disqualified.
Kazuyuki Manabe also showed his good performance in the race, but he wasn’t able to cross the group of 66 riders and finished 68th with the difference of 57 seconds.
In the beginning of the race, first break came from group of eight riders including, Miguel Angel Nino, Serhy Hrechyn (AMO team), Ghader Mizbani Iranagh, Markus Eichler and Amir Mohammadi Taef, but all of them never gained six minutes over peloton.
In the final sprint of the race, the group of four cyclists took the lead, but Miguel Angel maintained his speed and with the help of his Letua Cycling team he crossed the final-line ahead of Mehdi Sohrabi.
Previously, Miguel Angel took the third place in the fifth stage of Vuelta a Boyaca in 2009 and in 2008 grabbed the second spot in stage one of Clasica del Meta and won the overall classification.
The third stage overall winner, Mehdi Sohrabi, maintained his overall classification with the timing of 11 hours, 2 minutes and 28 seconds. His team-mate Hossein Askari was runner-up with 24 seconds behind Mehdi.
Ghader Mizbani Iranagh finished third with the difference of 25 seconds adrift. The stage winner Miguel Angel was in 25th place with difference 6 minutes and 25 seconds.
The next stage will start in Orumiyeh and end in Tabriz. All the riders will cover a distance of 125 kilometres.
