Miguel Angel Rubiano wins the sixth stage of the Giro d’ Italia 2012
Miguel Angel Rubiano Chavez of Team Androni Giocattoli turned the tables during the sixth stage of the Giro d’ Italia.
He crossed the finish line in an impressive time of 5 hours, 38 minutes and 30 seconds and sealed the deal during the 208 kilometre race.
Adriano Malori of Team Lampre-ISD, Michal Golas of Team Omega Pharma-Quick Step and Alexsandr Dyachenko of Team Astana secured the second, the third and the fourth spots in the respective order.
The Colombian cyclist produced his career best records during the first climbing stage of the Giro d’ Italia and helped his team with a much needed victory.
The Italian UCI Continental team is having a good season and has filled its bag with numerous victories in the young season.
Jose Serpa opened the team’s winning account at the Tour de Langkawi, he claimed the 5th and the 6th stages of the race and also secured the top overall spot at the event.
Roberto Ferrari finished first during the Route Adelie and also succeeded during the 5th stage of the Tour de Taiwan whereas Fabio Felline finished first during the Giro dell’Appennino.
The 27-year-old had huge support by his team-mates and make full use of the early lead.
He rode brilliantly in the final 45 kilometres and earned a 20 second lead over his major competitors.
The cyclist also dominated the mountains classifications of the event and has now jumped to the 4th overall position after the stage 6 classifications.
Team Androni Giocattoli bagged two Giro stages in the past season Angel Vicioso (stage 3) and Jose Rujano (stage 13) supported the team with their superb performances in the past season.
Miguel was delighted after the stage win, “At first I was just aiming for the mountain points, but then when I heard how far behind the group was I decided to take a risk and try a breakaway, and it went well,” he noted.
Adriano Malori of Team Lampre-ISD is leading the stage 6 classifications with an impressive lead of 15 seconds over Michal Golas of Team Omega Pharma-QuickStep.
Ryder Hesjedal of Team Garmin-Barracuda is further 2 seconds behind at the third spot with Miguel Angel Rubiano holding the fourth overall spot with a total deficit of 30 seconds on the race leader.
