Miguel Batista is older than Chipper Jones as he joins Atlanta Braves’ rotation - MLB Update
As the Atlanta Braves’ third baseman Chipper Jones misses games, it has been reported he is growing old and therefore is unable to play regularly.
The Braves have completed their series against the Giants in San Francisco where the weather was cold and when Jones was asked if he was affected by it he denied it and traced his failure to playing games in his old age. However, he is not the oldest player
in the team. The pitcher Miguel Batista who has replaced the injured Ben Sheets on rotation is 41.
Jones holds immense importance to the Braves’ offence. The games he misses out on ended up with the team’s offence putting up a below par performance more often than not. Although the Braves possess quality hitters, he has his own significance which makes
him irreplaceable in the line-up. Therefore in light of the fact that the Braves are heading into the play-offs, they cannot afford him not playing games.
Jones is going through his last season as a Major League third baseman. Therefore, in order to end it on a high, he will be delivering splendours on the plate on a consistent basis throughout the season.
For this, appearance in the line-up in every game is important but unfortunately for every next match the Braves’ manager Fredi Gonzalez messages him to inquire if he is fit to play. This indicates that Jones suffers some issues with his body that disallow
him to continue his expedition smoothly.
Meanwhile, manager Gonzalez talks about the absence of Jones in the last couple of games. He points out the scores of possibilities behind his inability to play matches. It can be either cold or fatigue.
“He was walking around a little gingerly last night,” Gonzalez said. “He’s a little beat up. Hopefully he comes in [Sunday] and feels good… Maybe it’s just the coldness, and playing, and the trip and the whole thing.”
The addition of Batista in the rotation has come at the negation of the reality that Jones is the oldest player in the team. While Jones will like to begin playing games soon, Batista will be trying to prove himself as a reliable replacement of Sheets.
