Miguel Cabrera homers as Detroit Tigers edge past Toronto Blue Jays 7-6 – MLB news
Detroit Tigers showed great determination and fight spirit and they bounced back for a 7-6 win against the Toronto Blue Jays at Rogers Centre in Toronto Ontario on Tuesday, July 2 in Game 2 of their four match series of the 2013 Major League Baseball regular
season.
It was an important win for the Tigers who have looked completely out of sorts over the last couple of weeks. With their win, the Tigers improved their record to 7-6 to stay at the top of American League Central Division standings table. Manager Jim Leyland
will be very happy with what he saw from his team on Tuesday but surely, he will be expecting the Tigers to continue the good work to make it to the playoffs.
“Especially when they score a lot of runs in the first inning, to be able to get back and win this game was big for us,” Cabrera said.
“Just a good win for us, we needed it,” Tigers manager Jim Leyland said. “Hopefully we can get things going again.”
“Hopefully it's not a big deal and I can come in tomorrow, do treatment and be ready to play,” Cabrera said.
“Miggy hit a big one,” Leyland said. “The three-run homer was huge for us.”
Blue Jays, on the other hand, failed to make the most of available opportunities in front of their home crowd. Blue Jays’ starting pitcher Chien Ming Wang paid the ultimate price for his errors on the mound, allowing six runs on eight hits in just over an
inning but it was Neil Wagner who took the loss after he gave up the tie breaking single in the eighth inning.
For the Tigers, starter Doug Fister allowed six runs in six innings and relief pitcher Albert Alburquerque grabbed his first win of the season after pitching a perfect inning.
After Blue Jays claimed the early 4-0 lead, Omar Infante doubled to left in the second inning to put Tigers on the board. Miguel Cabrera and hit a mighty three run home run to help his side come back from behind for a thrilling win.
