Miguel Cabrera homers as Detroit Tigers rout Chicago White Sox 7-4 – MLB Update
Detroit Tigers crushed the Chicago White Sox 7-4 in a thrilling encounter at Comerica Park in Detroit, Michigan on Friday, August 31 in the opening game of their three match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball.
Third baseman Miguel Cabrera once again provided the Tigers with an excellent start as he connected for a two run home-run in the first inning. Andy Dirks also played a key role in deciding the outcome of the clash, adding a double to deep centre in the
second. Chicago fought back strongly to level the score 4-4 in the sixth inning but the Tigers were too hot to handle on Friday.
"He's playing in some pain, but he's playing," Leyland said of Cabrera’s home-run in the first inning. "The trainers are pretty confident he can get through it."
With bases loaded, Delmon Young doubled to deep centre. Cabrera, Prince Fielder and Dirks scored to give Tigers an impassable 7-4 lead.
Starting pitcher Dou Fister gave up just three runs on four hits in five decent innings. Octavio Dotel grabbed his fifth win of the season after allowing a hit in 1.2 innings.
"We still have a ways to go, but obviously this is an important series without question," Leyland said. "Is it the end of the world one way or the other? No."
"That's one of those we've been looking for all year," Tigers’ manager Jim Leyland said. "We haven't cleared the bases many times like that with a big hit."
After getting hammered in a three game series against the Kansas City Royals, Jim Leyland and company regrouped themselves to put up a masterful performance on Friday in a crucial game against their American League Central Division rivals.
Credit should be given to the skipper Leyland who used the pitching rotation absolutely brilliantly to cause all sort of problems for Chicago’s batting line-up. With their win, the Tigers also closed the gap between themselves and the White Sox to just two
games. If the Tigers can sweep their arch rivals in this series, surely they will be the favourites to win the World Series title.
The Tigers will be happy with their performance as they managed to come together to dominate the Chicago White Sox.
