Miguel Cabrera homers but Detroit Tigers lose to Los Angeles Angels 1-2 – MLB Update
Detroit Tigers lost to the Los Angeles Angels 1-2 in a low scoring thriller at Comerica Park in Detroit, Michigan on Friday, August 24 in the opening game of their three match series.
Miguel Cabrera had another outstanding game with the bat. However, despite smacking a home-run in the eighth inning, Tigers’ third baseman failed to take his team to victory. Starting pitcher Rick Porcello took his ninth loss of the season after he gave
up seven hits and two runs in six innings. His counterpart from Angels, Zack Greinke gave up just a run in seven plus solid innings to improve to 2-2.
"That's the kind of game we need him to give us when he gets the ball," Los Angeles manager Mike Scioscia said.
"If we were playing in a smaller ballpark, it would have been a six, seven run game," Greinke said.
"I'm concerned about it after watching tonight," Leyland said of Cabrera who felt pain in his ankle. "He looked good at the plate, but moving around, certainly you would have to say there's some questions."
"He was hitting his spots. When he's on the mound, he's dangerous," Fielder said of Greinke in a post game interview.
After annihilating Boston Red Sox 3-0 in their previous series, the Angels looked in extremely confident mood on Friday. Showing great composure and determination, Mike Scioscia and his men edged the Tigers to take a crucial 1-0 series lead.
In their last game against the Red Sox, Los Angeles did not show any sign of nerves to prevail. Angels handed the pressure brilliantly at Comerica Park as well to dent their opponents’ confidence levels. With momentum on their side, surely the Angels will
be looking to earn a rare series sweep in Detroit. The Angels managed to hold on for a decent win over the powerful Tigers’ offence.
Tigers, on the other hand, were disgusted after taking the loss. They moved three games behind the White Sox after their defeat and it will be interesting to see if they can bring some consistency in the results to replace Chicago at the top of American
League Central Division standings table.
