“Miguel Cabrera is the best hitter in the league,” says Jim Leyland – MLB Featured
Detroit Tigers’ third baseman Miguel Cabrera is one of the most gifted players in Major League Baseball. His ability to play almost all positions on the baseball field is what makes him an asset to have in the team. Cabrera played first base last season
with 30 home-runs and 100 plus RBI’s, he led the Tigers to their first American League Central Division title.
After the Tigers decided to sign on Prince Fielder as first baseman during the offseason, Cabrera had to change his position to third base. However, he has looked equally good at his newly assigned position this season.
"Those guys are awfully good right in the middle. They're pretty good at what they do and they did what they do tonight," Jim Leyland said. "When we get rolling pretty good that's a good three-four combination, probably as good as anybody in baseball. They're
fun to watch."
The 2012 Home Run Derby Winner Fielder has displayed some top quality hitting skills since the start of the season, helping the Tigers secure many important victories. However, nothing can be taken away from Cabrera who has played a key role in reviving
Tigers’ campaign. Not too long ago, Detroit was way behind AL Central leaders, Chicago White Sox.
Using his vast experience, Cabrera helped the Tigers prevail in a number of nail biting encounters and now the Tigers are placed second on the AL Central Division just two games behind the White Sox.
When Tigers trailed 1-2 on Monday in a game against Boston Red Sox, Austin Jackson stood at first and Omar Infante at third. Cabrera looked extremely composed when he stepped onto the plate. There was a very slim chance that he will find a way to bring Infante
home.
Showing great temperament and mental toughness, Cabrera brought him home to level the score 2-2 to show the kind of comfort level he is feeling these days.
Tigers’ Manager Jim Leyland is convinced that Cabrera is arguably the best hitter in MLB right now. In addition to his unmatchable hitting skills, he has a unique ability to perform under pressure, which makes him extremely dangerous for the opposing teams.
The hard hitting striker is always looking to pass on his valuable skills to the youngsters in the Minor League system. Above all, he gives his 100 percent on the field whatever may be the case.
"Cabrera to me is the best hitter in the league," said manager Jim Leyland, “but you can't expect him to do it every single time -- it's not fair. It just doesn't work that way."
There are only a handful of active players, who led the league in home-runs, RBI’s and has won a batting title and Cabrera is one of them. Right now, he is leading the American League with 87 RBI’s and he won the batting title last year with a staggering
.344 batting average. His stats from 2008 and 2012 are also miraculous.
Cabrera is averaging .323 this season with 26 home-runs and an incredible .384 on base percentage. Along with Fielder, he forms one of the most dangerous hitting partnerships in the league. He is a freak, a beast and sometimes just sensational. There is
a reason why fans have so many expectations of him as he lives up to them almost every time.
