Miguel Cabrera leaves the field with bloody face – MLB Spring Training
Miguel Cabrera will be very frustrated after getting hit hard during Detroit Tigers’ Grapefruit League clash against Philadelphia Phillies on Monday, March 19. The six times All Star hitter from the Tigers is one of the most dynamic players in Major League
Baseball right now.
Not only is he strong and powerful, Cabrera also has the ability to perform to his potential in pressure situations. Tigers’ General Manager Dave Dombrowski and Manager Jim Leyland moved Cabrera to third base this season to let Prince Fielder play as Tigers’
first baseman.
Phillies hitter Hunter Pence hit Cabrera near the right eye. Cabrera’s left the field with the bloody face and he was taken to the nearest hospital for medical treatment. According to sources, Cabrera received stitches and got precautionary X-rays. Leyland
expressed his disappointment at Cabrera’s injury in a post game interview.
"He basically looked like a fighter who needed a cut man and who wasn't doing too well in the fight. Obviously, he got a bad hop. It (his face) is swollen. It will be black and blue. We have no information other than that he needs stitches,” Tigers’ Manager
Jim Leyland said.
"He'd be in the same place Cabrera is right now — getting stitches. He got a bad hop," Leyland added. "We noticed on the infield before the game that it was rough.”
When Cabrera was hit, he was wearing sunglasses. It was not clear if the ball hit the right lens or just under the lens. Cabrera had to wipe off his blood using a towel before he walked off the field. Cabrera has been working extremely hard since the start
of 2012 Spring Training in an effort to become a successful third baseman.
The hard hitting striker made the most of available opportunities last season to help the Tigers win the American League Central title. He will be looking to post another 30-plus home runs and 100-plus RBI’ season this year to shut his critics. It will be
interesting to see if he can live up to his immense potential. Surely, the Tigers will support him in every possible way.
