Miguel Cabrera receives stitches in the hospital - MLB Spring Training
According to a leading sports website, Detroit Tigers’ third baseman Miguel Cabrera received stitches on his face after he got hit hard in a Grapefruit League games against Philadelphia. The hard hitting Cabrera has looked in prime form since the start of
2012 Major League Baseball Spring Training Session.
With a shadow of doubt, Cabrera is one of the most dynamic hitters in the game right now. Last season, he batted in 30 home-runs and 105 RBIs to help the Tigers win the American League Central title. To make room for Tigers’ new first baseman Prince Fielder,
Cabrera’s position has been changed to third base this season. Before spring season began, many National writers were convinced that Cabrera will fail at third base. However, Tigers’ Manager Jim Leyland kept his faith in Cabrera, who has not disappointed in
his few spring appearances.
Cabrera was hit hard by a shot from Philadelphia’s batter Hunter Pence. With no time to react, Cabrera was unable to move to avoid the hit, which led to a bloody gash. The fans’ favourite was seen by the on field doctor, who later sent him to the nearest
hospital for further treatment. Source further stated that Cabrera has a broken bone below his right eye and he will need at least two weeks to recover.
"He basically looked like a fighter who needed a cut man and who wasn't doing too well in the fight. Obviously, he got a bad hop. It (his face) is swollen. It will be black and blue," Tigers’ manager Jim Leyland said.
"You’re going to pick up the paper tomorrow and read that Cabrera can’t play third base," Former Boston Red Sox manager Terry Francona said. "But that ball hits every third baseman in the majors in the face."
Although Tigers regular season does not start until April 5, Leyland and Tigers’ General Manager very concerned about Cabrera’s injury. The striker is one of the key players in Tigers’ squad and he played a vital role in Tigers’ AL Winning campaign last
season. The Tigers will be hoping for him to bounce back strongly on the Opening Day.
