Miguel Cabrera sees no panic after Victor Martinez out of Detroit Tigers – MLB News
Victor Martinez is one of the best hitters in the game right now. The striker was absolutely brilliant with the bat last season as he posted an impressive .330 average with 103 RBI’s. When fully fit and healthy, Martinez can be an asset to any Major League
Baseball Team. Making the most of his available opportunities, he helped the Tigers win the American League Central title by 15 games last season.
“We’ve got a great organization. We’ve got a great manager. I think they’ll figure out what they’re going to do,” Cabrera said. “I don’t worry about who’s going to hit behind me, who’s going to hit in front of me.”
However, just when everything seemed to be working for the Tigers, Martinez picked a serious knee injury. The striker was taking part in a training session when he felt pain in his left knee. Scans revealed that the he had a torn ALC and he will have to
miss the entire next season to recover. Martinez batted at number five sport after Miguel Cabrera in 2011 season. The pair was an important part of the Tigers batting line-up.
But Cabrera believes that Tigers’ performances will not be affected by Martinez’s absence. He commented the Tigers have a strong team and they will keep playing aggressively throughout the next season. No matter, who bats behind him, Cabrera is expected
to play his natural game freely.
"I don't focus on that, who's gonna hit behind me, who's gonna be in front of me," Cabrera said. "First thing we've got to focus on is Victor get healthy this year and hopefully he can play the last month, the last two months and he can help us to go to
the playoffs."
The Tigers will be hoping to get Martinez’s replacement as early as possible to rectify their problems. They may sign one of the arbitration eligible players, which could also save them considerable amount of money. Jim Leyland, who is an experienced manager,
is likely to wait before finalising a deal. Martinez, on the other hand, will be looking to train hard and get back into the team before the post season.
