Miguel Cabrera shines as Detroit Tigers rout Chicago White Sox 6-4 – MLB Update
Detroit Tigers extended their winning streak to five games as they beat their American League Central Division rivals Chicago White Sox 6-4 at Comerica Park in Detroit, Michigan on Sunday, July 22 in the finale of their three match series of the 2012 Major
League Baseball regular season.
The fans will be extremely happy with what they have seen from the Tigers over the last few weeks. It was Tigers fifth straight win and credit should be given to the Manager Jim Leyland for using his pitching resources effectively.
Tigers looked confused in the first half of the season when they barely managed to stay in the playoff race. However, after the All Star Break, they have raised their game standards significantly to replace the White Sox at the top of AL Central Division
standings.
With an impressive 52-44 record, Leyland and company have an excellent chance to reach post-season for the second straight year.
Rookie Quintin Berry is having one of the finest years of his life. The left-fielder hit his second home-run of the season in the first inning to put the Tigers 2-1 ahead. Third baseman Miguel Cabrera put up another power-show to play a key role in deciding
the outcome of the game.
"Somebody got it. They got it somehow," Detroit manager Jim Leyland said of Cabrera, who hit his 300th home-run on Sunday. "They got in there and got it, and that's his 300th, so I'm sure they'll take care of it for him."
"For my country, yes, it's very special," Cabrera said. "Hopefully a lot of players can follow from Venezuela and try hitting 300 more."
The hard hitting Cabrera hit back-to-back home-runs in the first and the third to put Detroit in a commanding position. Brennan Boesch also homered to extend Tigers’ lead to 6-1.
Chicago fought back strongly in closing stages of the game but the Tigers held on to their two run lead easily to complete a deserving series sweep.
Starting pitcher Jacob Turner pitched five plus solid innings, allowing just three runs to get his first win of the season.
