Miguel Cabrera’s achievements make him deserving AL MVP – MLB Update
For now, the debate is over as Miguel Cabrera edged Los Angeles Angels’ rookie Mike Trout in the American League Most Valuable Player Award voting conducted by the Baseball Writers’ Association of America.
The voting wasn’t all that close as Cabrera received 22 out of 28 first place votes. The hard hitting Detroit Tigers’ third baseman finished second on all the six votes taken by Trout. It seems for now the old school technique has won the battle against
the modern symmetry.
Cabrera had a memorable time on the plate in the 2012 regular season as he hit .330 with 44 home-runs and 139 RBI’s. He also became the first player to win the Triple Crown Award in 45 years. Silver Slugger and Hank Aaron are some of the other awards he
claimed at the end of the season.
However, what he managed to achieve this season was no fluke. He has been leading the American in average and home-runs for the last three years, showing the improvement he has been able to make to his game play.
"It means a lot," Cabrera said. "I thought it was going to be very close because Trout do a very good job this season, unbelievable. Thank God they vote for me to give me this award."
"He's the best hitter that's ever played in Detroit since I've been here, there's no question about that," Hall of Famer Al Kaline said. "We might have had somebody with more home run power but overall, he's by far the best hitter that I've ever seen here.
That's including myself, and I don't even want to put myself in the same category with him. He's the best."
Very few players have been able to match Cabrera’s brilliance in the history of the game. New York Yankees’ slugger Alex Rodriguez smacked 57 home-runs with 142 RBI’s. He hit .300 to finish 49 points behind the winner Manny Ramirez.
It will be interesting to see if Cabrera can continue the good work in the next season to help his team end their 29-year World Series drought.
