Miguel Cabrera’s is back to his very best – 2011 MLB Special

Nicknamed Miggy, Miguel Cabrera is one of the most gifted and talented first baseman in the game right now. Since he became a part of Major League Baseball, the right handed striker has produced match winning performances. Showing his high quality hitting
skills, Cabrera led the Tigers to the playoffs this past season.
Cabrera’s progress was hindered significantly when he was found involved in an ugly drunk driving incident. His life was in complete disorder until the spring training season 2011 began. Many of us including myself thought that his best days were behind
him. However, the guy proved everyone wrong by recording one of the finest seasons of his career. Dismissing any doubts over his future, he proved to the baseball world what he was capable of.
His consistency and persistent hard work shows that Tigers’ manager Jim Leland was absolutely right in saying that Cabrera will have the best season of his career in 2011. His amazing .344 batting average and a sensational .488 OBP are the best marks of
the entire league. However, most importantly, he had no further incidents off the field.
It was an amazing comeback by the player, who faced charges for driving under the influence of alcohol and pushing the cop. In addition to his heroic hitting abilities, Cabrera can perform his on-field duties quite efficiently. If he can maintain his current
form over the next few seasons, he will certainly become a part of the list of Hall of Famers. Considering his agility and strength, he can be an asset to any MLB team.
“It’s like there’s a moment that happens in baseball, and when it happens, I do everything to concentrate. When you do that, it can be good,” said Cabrera in an interview.
He further added that, “When I was coming up, I just wanted to play baseball and I’m doing what I love to do most. How can I feel pressure doing what I love to do?. I’m still adjusting, and getting more at-bats is the best way for me to get better. I’m taking
my time. I feel much more confident, and every day I feel like I’m getting better.”
Since moving to Detroit, the striker has been everything the Tigers could have asked for. He led them to several thrilling wins during the 2011 season. His impressive .421 OBP is the highest among all players. Batting with an average of .332 with 334 RBI’s,
18.9 WAR and 163 wRC + over the same period of time, he is also in the top five hitters list.
Cabrera is one of those players who do not sacrifice batting average for power. The only thing he thinks about is getting as many runs as possible for his side. Staying healthy is also not an issue for him as he missed very few games since moving to Detroit.
On the other hand, his defence is also quite decent and the best thing that can be said is that Cabrera is not a liability at his position.
Since he became an MLB professional in 2003, pitchers have not been able to find a way to get him out cheaply. Hopefully his off-field issues are behind him now and this once in a generation talent can live up to his immense potential in 2012 season as well.
