Miguel Cotto: I am ready for anything Floyd brings to me
Puerto Rican WBA (Super) Light Middleweight Champion Miguel Cotto is confident to become the first fighter ever to defeat unbeaten American WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. Floyd has stepped into the ring 42 times and has lost not even a single
bout, making him the only undefeated fighter with such a streak. While many analysts are of the view that Mayweather will be too heavy for Cotto to handle, the Puerto Rican champion thinks otherwise. According to Cotto, there is always a first time for everybody
and this is Mayweather’s first time.
Cotto, while talking about defeating Mayweather said, “No one is invincible. I know this because I passed this moment in my own life when I was defeated for the first time [against Antonio Margarito in July 2008]. I am ready for anything Floyd brings to
me. It is more important to ask if he is ready for anything Miguel brings to him. Floyd is a counter-attacking puncher and Pedro has a specific strategy for fighting him. Everything is running to plan, running to schedule, and my goal is to follow Pedro's
strategy exactly on fight night. If I do that, I trust that, whether it be by knockout or points decision, I will be victorious.”
Miguel will face Floyd Mayweather Jr. on May 5 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. The bout will have Cotto’s title on the line while Floyd will be defending his unbeaten streak. Even though Cotto feels he can beat Mayweather, most analyst think Cotto is the
underdog for the fight.
In his previous workout media session, Cotto said that he has been working hard during his training sessions and he has achieved all the goals he had set for himself by now. He added that this match is just another match for him, which he has to win. According
to Cotto, it is just another match for him and Mayweather and whatever happens, he will continue with his career without looking back. On the other hand, Floyd Mayweather Jr. is quite confident of the fact that Cotto cannot beat him no matter what he does.
