Miguel Cotto disappointed over decision loss – Boxing News
It seems like unbeaten fighters are being favoured by American judges these days, at least that is how it appears to be. Following Manny Pacquiao’s loss to unbeaten Timothy Bradley, Amir Khan’s loss to unbeaten Danny Garcia, it is now Miguel Cotto who has
suffered the same ill fate.
Cotto was defeated by unbeaten fighter Austin Trout, which was probably the biggest upset of his career. He was coming off a loss to unbeaten fighter Floyd Mayweather Jr. and was expecting to add a win to portfolio. Unfortunately, the Puerto Rican fighter
was unable to revive his boxing career. He fell to Trout’s attack and lost via unanimous decision. However, Cotto was not satisfied with the scorecards.
“I'm not finished yet. I still have boxing in my mind. I just want to rest with my family the rest of the year,” said Cotto after the fight.
On the other hand, Trout was celebrating his victory over probably one of the best welterweight fighters of our time. According to the unbeaten American, it was the biggest fight of his life and he wanted to make the best out of it. Trout even said that
this was his chance to score the big spot.
“I've been preparing for this fight my entire life. Fighting someone like Miguel Cotto is a dream come true for someone like me waiting for their big moment. I had to show him I was the biggest guy and push him back a couple of times. I kept pushing him
back to show he had no advantage there,” said Trout who now moves to 26 wins and 0 losses.
Unfortunately, Cotto, who is favourite of Madison Square Garden and was unbeaten before this loss, had nothing much to say. For Cotto, it was probably the biggest upset of his career. After being defeated by elite fighters like Antonio Margarito, Manny Pacquiao
and Floyd Mayweather Jr., Cotto had to grab a win against Trout in order to make sure he stays in the game but he did not.
The former champion lost to Trout in a way no one expect, but that is boxing and upsets are meant to happen.
