Miguel Cotto to face Antonio Margarito for a rematch in December 2011 – Boxing news
The Puerto Rican professional boxer Miguel Angel Cotto Vazquez, who is the four-time world champion in three weight divisions, has been convinced to go against the former WBA, IBF and WBO Welterweight Champion, Antonio Margarito for a 12-round rematch
of the WBA World Light Middleweight title.
The bout will take place on December 3, 2011 at the Madison Square Garden in New York, United States.
The two fighters went face to face before that for the WBA World Welterweight title in July 2008 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Referee Kenny Bayless called the bout off in the eleventh round. The Mexican-American professional boxer, Antonio Margarito Montiel won an eleven-round technical knockout decision against the reigning WBA Super Welterweight Champion, Cotto.
In Margarito’s next fight when Antonio ‘El Tornado de Tijuana’ Margarito went against Sugar Shane Mosley in 2009, it was discovered that his hands were wrapped with a plaster substance which is illegal in boxing.
Sugar Shane Mosley won the bout scoring a nine-round technical knockout victory against Antonio ‘The Express Train’ Margarito. However, many critics were of the view that Margarito’s victory over Miguel ‘Junito’ Cotto was not legitimate and there was definitely
a substance to cause severe damage to Cotto.
Cotto is now returning to the ring after winning a couple of his good fights against Ricardo Mayorga and Yuri Foreman. The 30-year-old Orthodox stance, Cotto has fought 38 of his total fights of which he won 36 competitive bouts including 29 knockout victories.
Margarito is coming back to the ring after being defeated by the best pound-for-pound boxer, Manny Pacquiao. Pacquiao won a 12-round unanimous points decision against Margarito in November 13, 2010 at the Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
Hopefully, the fight between the 33-year-old Orthodox stance, Margarito and Cotto will be interesting and fascinating to watch as it is expected.
