Question:

Miguel Cotto vs Floyd Mayweather?

Do you think that if these two "fight" each other it won't be a "fight" because it will be a boxing match for Mayweather to win he will not go head to head with Cotto's hard punching power and Floyd will do what he does best by blocking punches and dodging punches and then countering every chance he gets while getting the majority of rounds. Floyd Mayweather's style is a boxer and he will not brawl with Cotto.

If Miguel Cotto had trouble with an aging Shane Mosley than Cotto will definetly have major trouble boxing with the best of Floyd Mayweather who is faster, better defense, footwork, and better volume punching (Floyd is not a hard hitter but the accumilation of punches takes a toll on ones body) Floyd is all around best suited to win.

Floyd Mayweather wins a clean and decisive Unanimous Decision i believe and will not even be hurt at any time in their bout do you agree? If not what do you think will happen if these two ever fight?

  1. Floyd would win a easy decision

  2. Not really a fair question.

One, ANYONE would have had trouble with Shane Mosely that night. Primarily, cause not only does Shane hit fast..he hits HARD!!  VERY HARD!!! Floyds punches are more like whips, Shanes punches are more blunt. Cotto had alot of problems dealing with the fact that he was getting just as good, if not better, than he was giving.

Two, if Floyds M.O. is to take weaker fighters, and he would perceive Cotto to be weaker...now would be the time for him to speak up and shy away from WWE. He keeps saying he doesnt want to say he ran away from anyone, but he is openly avoiding Cotto.

Cotto could define Mayweather as a great. To put the first L on someones record...not to mention someone as highly respected as Cotto...would be a GREAT way to end his legacy. Hatton was a dwarf who never had a chance against Floyd, and everyone knew that.

Floyds problem would be that Cottos punches would HURT him....and not in a way that he is used to dealing with. There is a very good chance Cotto could put Floyd clean on his a$$ with one of those punches...and thats not a chance he wants to take.

  3. That fight will never happen....

Mayweather will evade Cotto as much as he can.....or he'll get his _ _ _ whipped.

  4. While PBF has an edge stylewise, I can help but think of PBF's fights with Hatton and DLH.

Both Hatton and DLH used pressure effectively against PBF.  PBF's punch output during the DLH fight was pathetic at best.  There is no doubt in my mind that had Cotto been in the ring that night PBF would have lost.

In the Hatton fight, PBF just lets Hatton come in like a little bull.  That would not work with Cotto.  Cotto is too strong for PBF to let him just pound away like that.

Couple that with Cotto's discipline jabbing that he displayed against Mosley and I have a hard time choosing.

I do not think that PBF has the strength necessary to take advantage of Cotto...either with one shot or an accumulation of punches.

PBF's best chance is a mobile fight with little in fighting........and that is likely what would happen if they meet.

  5. FLOYD WINS BY KO or STOPPAGE AND HERE'ES WHY.

in COTTO vs TORRES: cotto was hurt bad early on, he was dazed and stumbling all over the place because he was getting caught by punches that were'nt even fast, they were haymakers that you could see from a mile away but cotto has poor defense and refuses to back up until its too late. had torres thrown any body punches when cotto was hurt he would have stopped him.

in COTTO vs MALIGNAGGI: we saw what happens when cotto faces speed....he gets hit and alot, luckily for him Malignaggi has absolutely no power and he also hurt his hand or shoulder during the fight. cotto deserved the decision but it was glimpse of cotto vs mayweather and floyd hits harder, has better defense, and footwork than malignaggi

in COTTO vs JUDAH: judah dominated the fight until he ran out of steam like he always does, he had cotto hurt a few times with vicious uppercuts. this was another glimpse into the future of mayweather vs cotto since zab and floyd has similar attributes, and zab looked phenomenal against cotto til he got tired. floyd doesn't know the meanting of tired.

in COTTO vs CORLEY: please everyone watch this fight if you can i feel really bad for "chop chop" who had a solid chance at winning this fight but was robbed by an in-experienced referee. the fight was stopped when cotto threw a 3punch combo that missed, sensing danger he took a knee like a smart veteran fighter would to recieve a standing 8 count to get his bearings thats when the ref stopped it, everyone was shocked even the commentators called this a unfounded foolish stoppage. the fight was pretty even and chop chop was getting the upper hand at the stoppage.

Floyd beat guys that are faster than cotto, just as strong as cotto, more agressive than cotto, throw more combinations than cotto, bigger than cotto, and that are smarter fighters than cotto. Floyd would would pot shot cotto til he is damaged, cotto would be missing with all his puches due to floyd's footwork and ring savvy and he'd get frustrated like he did when he picked up another fighter and threw him out of frustration. floyd would then began staying inside to break cotto's spirit even more. not the ref but cotto's corner would stop the fight seeing the one-sidedness of the fight and the un-answered punishment he is taking just like in Mayweather vs Gatti. whenever floyd fights aggressive strong fighters like gatti or hatton he beats them even worst than fast, smart, fighters like de la hoya or zab judah.

  6. Ah finally an asker that actually knows something about boxing, your analogy is excellent and i have been saying it for months now, i think Mayweather is the guy with the most chances to win.

  7. Kieran I respect your opinion but I have to disagree.  Number one, Ricky Hatton is not a dwarf and on most nights could give anyone 147 and under a run for their money.  He is very strong and not much shorter than Cotto.  Cotto looked good Saturday night against someone who was taller but physically not in his league nor skillwise.  Alfonso Gomez fought his heart out but he is no Ricky Hatton.  I would give Hatton a good shot at beating Cotto and he is close to, if not as good, a bodypuncher.  Floyd made Ricky look very beatable because in terms of skill he is in a league of his own.

Secondly, Cotto is strong but he is not a one punch knockout artist and would have to hit Floyd many times before hurting him bad enough to knock him down.  Ask Oscar De La Hoya, who is by far a better boxer and bigger than Miguel Cotto and faster, if that is an easy task.

This is not a question of Floyd running from anyone.  What many of you novices tend to forget is that professional boxing is a business and the best fighters have management that gets them fight for the most money and the least risk.  I believe that Floyd has enough of a chip on his shoulder that at some point next year (if Antonio Margarito doesnt knock Cotto out which wouldnt surprise me at all) he will take on Miguel and then after putting a beating on him will have to answer his critics once more saying Floyd threw one punch at a time and didnt come to fight and blah blah blah.

Like him or not, he is the best and because he is the best he can and will make business decisions when it comes to choosing his opponents.  I hope he gets that fight eventually if only to prove to you all that Cotto is not the destroyer you want him to be.  In fact, if Tito Trinidad were in his prime he would have KO'ed Cotto several years ago.  Nevermind what guys like Tommy Hearns and Ray Leonard would have done to him but if you want to paint him as your poster boy of the month for beating Floyd, go ahead.

  8. haha i've said it once and i will say it again.floyd would destroy cotto.keiran27 is a moron.for one think about what i am going to tell you.has cotto's strength is the body floyd has the best defence in boxing....ask delahoya, hatton,or corrallis.cotto is a good fighter but he wouldn't get close to floyd.he would get tired about the 8 round and would be knocked out by the 10th.if you don't think floyd can knock him out then i have something for you.ricky Hatton, arturo gotti, diego corrallis,,jesus chavez all have one thing in comin they all were champions or former champions who got knocked out by floyd mayweather jr.soft hands my @$$

  9. I cannot wait this would be a superfight between two of boxings best at this time. Miguel Cotto is the stronger underdog and hes hungry. But Mayweather is a fast guy. Would be a great fight
