There has been alot of reports on cotto if he beats gomez on the 12th that he will fight the winner of the undercard, but now on boxrec.com and also on yahoo for its boxing schedule it has miguel cotto fighting ricardo mayorga. Is this true?Do you think this will be a dangerous fight? But is this fight just talk and he will fight the winner of the undercard?

  1. Yeah he is supposed to fight Mayorga after why I dont know , mayorga is basicaly just a stepping stone. But I mean cmon who wants to see cotto fight bums like gomez and mayorga. I think cotto is defintly a little over rated and hyped up but he will destroy both of those fighters. The gomez fight could possibly go the distance but there is no way in h**l mayorga can go 12 rounds with cotto he will get knocked out somewhere in the middle rounds. The fight will be dangerous but not for Cotto only for Mayorga , Cotto is too smart to get beat by someone like Mayorga. I dont know why they keep allowing judah and mayorga to have big money fights, should just have those 2 fight 1 another.

  2. For a moment, I thought Cotto-Gomez winner would take on the Cintron-Margarito winner. It's quite possible that the arrangment for that has fell short all of a sudden. If boxrec.com is accurate about the schedules then it seems that Margarito has other plans outside of fighting the Cotto-Gomez, since it has him listed to fight again two months after he fights Kermit Cintron in a rematch. If all that is true, then it's probably true that Cotto will take on Ricardo Mayorga in July, just to keep busy, if the Cintron-Margarito winner is not happening. I'm still uncertain though about what's really going on, so I'm waiting about another week or two to see if anything more developes between the fighters mentioned.

Anyway, if the Cotto-Mayorga fight takes place, I do think Mayorga would have only a puncher's chance of winning. Outside of that, I think this is a fight that Cotto should handle fairly well. At one point it seemed that Mayorga could take anybody's punches, but it seems now that anyone who has some serious power in their punches can actually dispose of Mayorga (Trinidad and De La Hoya). We know Cotto can punch, so I thinking adding the difference in skill, once again Cotto should win fairly easily.

  3. COTTO

  4. he will fight and lose

  5. Cotto is too skilled of a fighter. Mayorga was a flash in a pan.

He is not as technically sound  a fighter. But because of his one punch knockout ability. It could turn out to be a dangerous fight for Cotto. I would have to say Cotto would win this matchup.

  6. yeah its true

Mayorga offered to fight Cotto long before the fight with Gomez was made... I think if Margarito wins, Cotto will fight Mayorga first to get back at Margarito for fighting Wiliams instead of him. Cotto has even said that margarito is going to have to wait his turn before he fights Cotto

Mayorga has a very strong chin, the only fighter to hurt him would be De La Hoya and Trinidad... But he's old and ha very little skill, he only has his chin and strength

This fight would be good cause Ricardo likes to slug it out and it would be good to see Cotto brawl than his recent boxing skills

If this fight would happen, i would put my money on Cotto

  7. that's money. a licensed brawler against a killer body-puncher. mayorga just torn vargas' a$$ off aNd cotto just ripped a decision over sugar shane.

Two of the most exciting fighters in the division, after these two, i mean this 2, there is no more excitement in the welterweight (mainly because of pbf).

    cotto via 10th round TKO..

much alike pac-marquez fights. A heavy-handed street-fighter versus a thorough-breed textbook boxer, who has underrated power. cotto will continously batter mayorga's middle and make it softer while avoiding those flying to-whom-it-may-concern bombs. At the end of the day, the one who hits more and hurts his opponents more will win. Cotto is young and super-aggressive. Much quicker and more agile than "el matador". But if mayorga connects with those deadly hooks and straights in the early or middle rounds, that's trouble for cotto.

  8. that vargas fight didn't mean anything. vargas is washed up and that was obvious in his victory. mayorga has yet to prove he can beat a top fighter. he got killed against oscar. miguel is going to knocj him out and catch him on the chin with a puerto rican combo
