Miguel Cotto vs Ricardo Mayorga set for July?

This matchup will bring alot out of Miguel Cotto if he wins. This will be the nail in the coffin for Mayweather Jr. to fight him soon. Here is the plan when he gets by the tough boxer Alfonso Gomez he plans to fight Ricardo Mayorga. Personally I think Mayorga should fight Vernon Forrest and then retire but this match withCotto will seal that one and the Forrest fight will not happen. Cotto will out-box Mayorga and TKO him in 9 rounds, but Mayorga is so wild and unorthordox in his arm swings he could have that punchers chance. Any other answers?

  1. Mayorga certainly has a puncher's chance............................

Cotto is not as good a boxer as we are lead to believe, as his defense leaves him open for head shots!

    Mayorga in 5

  2. I think Cotto will be too much competition.  He'll win the fight.

  3. Mayorga has much more than the "puncher's chance" going for him.  He also has the "hailstorm inside the stadium chance" and the "plague of locusts ringside chance" to rely upon.

Cotto has beaten Judah, Quintana, Malignaggi, and Shane.  'Nuff said.  I'm a Mayorga fan. . . but I just don't see him matching power with the Puerto Rican slugger.  Neither one of these guys have killer defense, but Cotto's is a seven, whereas Mayorga's is a two.

    Cotto by TKO 5

  4. cotto will win, and then hopefully take on all comers 'till floyd eventually gives him the big payday he deserves.

  5. Mayorga is out gunned, but this one is interesting.  Clearly Cotto should win, but then again Forrest should have beat Mayorga too.  This is a fight that fans can enjoy, Mayorga has always been a character.  I too would like to see Ricardo do well, but it is unlikely anyone is going to stop Cotto until he fights Mayweather.

Cotto by KO by eight rounds.

  6. If anyone knows boxing as much as i do you will understand where i am coming from and what the my reasoning is.

first of all, Mayorga has way more than just a puncher's chance to win

the problem with people is that they only see the history of his technical ability. In his last fight with vargas (which no doubt was not vargas' best fight, but he certainly used up what he did have at his disposal) mayorga showed a technical ability that he never had. He was trained by Duran and it shows that the hard work paid off. mayorga sqaured up more and kept his composure. Ricardo did not lose his temper and showed a clear head.

Second of all, most people dislike mayorga not because he is below average fighter but because he oftentimes makes a mockery of the sport. I understand why most would not like him, i don't much of the time, but it is very hard to argue that he does have the heart, passion and a chin of steel. Maybe a lot of his arrogance is a product of things being too much too soon. In any case, i am not here to be an armchair psychologist but I am trying advocate and maybe shed some light on the situation.

Third as we all know, is the fact that cotto has a shotty defense. If mayorga penetrates cotto's defense he has much more than just a puncher's chance.

That is just what I think, which i think is not too bad for a seventeen year old. Don't worry though,     i grew up in a boxing family and i have watched and learned from it all my life. I have done my research so i know that what i am saying is not a total bunch of bull.

Msg me if you have any opinions on boxing. I will msg back as soon as i can. Thanks

  7. I'll actually be rooting for Mayorga in this one for all the wrong reasons but I can't help it is is just too entertaining. I think he does have a punchers chance, he is one boxer who always will because he is easy to look past especially in the welterweight division. Miguel Cotto has shown early on that he is susceptible to big punchers and has been down on the canvass before against lesser hitters. When Mosley stayed inside and traded with him Mosely had the better of it. I'm a Cotto fan and want him to do well but Mayorga I guess is like Freddy Kruger or some other villain where you know he's suppose to be the bad guy but you can't help rooting for him.

  8. Well i see it like this Cotto is the type of fighter that studies his

opponents and he has worked on his defense more so he has up the notch on becoming a more complete boxer. Mayorga is getting old but you never know we all seen what Rockman did to Lewis with the infamous "Lucky Punch". But never the less Cotto Is A MONSTER!!! And I know that If he stays in His Welterweight division and doesn't make the mistake "Trinidad", and "Jones" did on moving up weight he will bring wreckage to ANY opponent he faces!!!! He should stay where hes at and I gaurantee he WILL Become Legendary with a SUPERB RECORD!!!!
