Miguel Cotto will scout Manny Pacquiao-Antonio Margarito
There will be thousands in attendance and millions watching around the world when Manny Pacquiao and Antonio Margarito touch gloves on November 13. But only one man will be in Miguel Cotto’s position, and he will be sitting front row and center.
Cotto, the WBA junior middleweight champion, has confirmed he will be in the first row for the Pacquiao-Margarito fight, where he will assess and observe the only two fighters to add chinks to his otherwise perfect professional record.
"I know it's going to be a hard fight and good for boxing,” Cotto said. “I believe the fighter who makes the best use of their advantages is the one who will take the victory," Cotto.
Obviously looking to redeem his two defeats, Cotto could well find himself in the ring in the future with either of the two men, especially considering he is a fellow Top Rank fighter, with whom Arum is more privy to work.
Cotto acknowledged that he doesn’t have a favourite for the fight, but that he feels it will nevertheless be a tough fight and can go either way depending on who is able to impose his will on his opponent.
"I have no prediction whatsoever,” Cotto said. “I only know that it's going to be a great fight. I don't know if it's going to go the distance because both of them are explosive and strong fighters. Anything can happen.”
Cotto maintains that he remains a Top Rank fighter for the better part of 2011. Under the direction of chief promoter Bob Arum he has seen time in the ring with memorable opponents such as Manny Pacquiao, Zab Judah, Shane Mosley, and Yuri Foreman.
In July 2008, Cotto suffered his first defeat to Margarito, “The Tijuana Tornado.” Cotto was able to control the early rounds of the fight with his speed and ringmanship, but succumbed in later rounds to Margarito’s unrelenting aggression.
