Miguel Gonzalez enjoying his first postseason with Baltimore Orioles – MLB Update
Miguel Gonzalez is very excited about his current situation these days. After spending more than seven years recovering from various forms of injuries and bouncing around the Minor League, Gonzalez finds himself in a position where he always wanted to be.
The 28-year-old missed the 2008 and 2009 seasons because of a knee injury and a Tommy John Surgery.
Playing his first ever postseason, Gonzalez is not letting anything get past him. He knows that he has been given an excellent opportunity to revive his career and he is ready to take off his sweater and throw his first pitch.
Gonzalez is expected to start for the Orioles in Game 3 of the American League Divisional Series against the New York Yankees. After losing in the opener, Orioles bounced back strongly in Game 2 to level the series.
''Miguel has put himself in a position to contribute, and he's a great story about perseverance and just a strong will to succeed. He cares about winning. It's not about himself, it's about impacting the game on the four days he doesn't pitch, his teammates,''
manager Buck Showalter said. ''He's always got a smile on his face, and he's a guy that's not going to wither from the competition, that's not going to have anxiety about things, he trusts himself and he trusts his teammates behind him. He's been fun to watch.''
The right hander finished the season with a decent 9-4 record. His ERA was also among the best in the American League. Gonzalez will now have a chance to guide the Orioles to a victory over the mighty Yankees.
Orioles’ last trip to the American League Championship Series was recorded in 1997. It will be interesting to see if they can hold their nerves under pressure in their games to cheer up the fans.
Yankees’ starter Hiroki Kuroda will be starting against Gonzalez, who struck-out 17 batters in just over 13 innings in two starts. Surely, Gonzalez will be looking to continue his domination against the Yankees to help his side take a crucial 2-1 series
lead.
It will be exciting to see both Gonzalez and Kuroda battle it out as everything is on the line in this crucial game.
