Miguel Gonzalez leads Baltimore Orioles past Los Angeles Angels 3-2 – MLB Update
Baltimore Orioles fought past Los Angeles Angels 3-2 at Angel Stadium of Anaheim on Friday, July 6 in the second game of their four match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
Both teams struggled to take advantage of scoring opportunities in the first three innings as neither team could get on the score-board. Mark Trumbo put the Angles on the board as he homered to right-centre in the fourth inning.
Baltimore responded immediately, thanks to a three run home-run from Steve Pearce in the fifth inning that made the score 3-1 in Orioles’ favour. The first baseman is having an excellent time on the plate this year. His average of .258 this season is also
considerably higher than his career average.
It will be interesting to see if he can bring some more consistency into his game-play in the second half of the season to help the Orioles replace the American League East Division leaders, the New York Yankees.
Angels’ centre-fielder Mike Trout homered in the eighth inning but the Orioles managed to hold off the Angels to secure a much needed victory. Relief pitcher Miguel Gonzalez pitched seven stunning innings for his first career win. Allowing just three hits
and a run with six strike-outs, he created all sorts of problems for the Angels’ offence.
"With the things Miguel has been through and the road he has traveled in his life, I don't think there's any question he deserved this," Baltimore manager Buck Showalter said.
"I thought it was a good time to do it," said Gonzalez. "I've been taking it with me every time on the road. I used it once in a while."
"I'm a fighter, and I've been doing well all around," he added. "Family and friends were all there for me. After all the ups and downs I've had, I was just glad to help out the team."
After the Orioles lost in a thrilling encounter in series opener, Orioles’ Manager Buck Showalter was expecting his team to bounce back strongly and that is exactly what the Orioles did as they edged their opponents 3-2 on Friday to level series.
