Miguel Gonzalez to take mound for Baltimore Orioles against New York Yankees – MLB news
Baltimore Orioles will be taking on the New York Yankees this weekend at the Yankee Stadium in Bronx for an important away series within the American League East.
It will be a fight for the birds to maintain their second spot in the AL East and get closer to the top spot in the division in near future. The Orioles last week scored some important points in that column as they defeated the Yankees 3-0 at home turf.
The Yankees since have beaten the Minnesota Twins 4-0 at home and appeared to have nicely gotten over the slump where they lost six out of seven games.
Miguel Gonzalez will take the mound for the Orioles in the series opener. The 29-year-old pitcher feels that he has an advantage against the Yankees, particularly against the left handed hitters as he often faces them and knows that his off speed pitch works
wonders against them. He feels that he has the right mix of pitches to dominate his opponents.
“The advantage is, I face a lot of lefties and my offspeed works pretty well against them,” Gonzalez said. “And mixing in pitches, I think, just helps me out a little bit more.”
Miguel has been in top for the birds with a 6-3 record thus far in the season. The pitcher was given a couple of extra days off to keep him fresh for tougher tasks.
The right-handed pitcher also is aware that the crowd at the Yankee Stadium will be unkind. Miguel says that he is used to stuff like that back from his playing days in Mexico. He simply believes in letting go of the distractions and enjoying his game.
“Being in crowds like that, I've done it in the past in Mexico and stuff like that. So, try to block all that stuff out and just go out there and have fun,” Gonzalez said.
Miguel said that he is confident against the New York ballclub as he often faces them during the course of the season. He feels that doing so makes it a touch easier for him.
“I think that's the most important thing, having that confidence against a team that you face a lot during the season. It makes it a little bit easier to pitch against guys like that.”
The Yankees will be starting the season opener with Ivan Nova who has a 2-2 win-loss record thus far in the season. They will certainly like to continue their good show in the recent days.
Baltimore Orioles will need to bring their A game to Bronx in order to ensure that they continue the general good work that they have done this season. They have been particularly good against the New York ballclub and the fans will certainly hope that the
trend continues.
