Miguel Montero’s double RBIs help Arizona Diamondbacks rout San Francisco Giants 5-2 – MLB Update
Arizona Diamondbacks’ catcher, Miguel Montero had an extraordinary day with the bat as he went 2-for-4 with an average of .285 and hit two RBIs in the Diamondbacks’ 5-2 win against the San Francisco Giants at Chase Field, Arizona on September 25.
Diamondbacks got away with couple of runs and took a 2-0 lead at the bottom of the first inning. Aaron Hill and Justin Upton both scored two runs jointly when Montero bunted a double-run drive towards deep right-centre. Josh Collmenter reached to pitcher
on an infield single but Collin Cowgill and John McDonald both ground out without taking any run at the bottom of the second inning.
Similarly, Giants’ short-stop, Brandon Crawford, Chris Stewart and Tim Lincecum each ground out to various field positions without adding any run for their team. Diamondbacks increased their lead to 3-0 at the bottom of the fourth when Cowgill doubled to
right-field and Paul Goldschmidt scored a single run. In the fifth inning, Diamondbacks advanced to 5-0 when the batters revived their tricky shots.
Hill bunted a ground rule double to deep left-field and Gerardo Parra posted one run. The second run for Diamondbacks was taken by Hill when Geoff Blum was ground out to first base and Cole Gillespie occupied third base to end the fifth inning. Giants scored
their initial two runs during the sixth inning and got a 5-2 lead.
Diamondbacks’ manager, Kirk Gibson said, “Our intentions are to win out. We may. We may not. But wherever we have to go on Saturday, that's fine. It's good times. It's fun.”
Speaking to reporters, Collmenter said, “I worked on that third pitch (a curveball) to make it a weapon all the time. It's been one heck of a ride this year.”
Andres Torres hit a one-run homer (395 feet) to right-field and Carlos Beltran also homered (405 feet) towards right-field to keep the Giants alive. The rest of the three innings were vacant. Blum doubled to deep right-field but McDonald fouled out to third
base and Cowgill struck-out without taking runs at the bottom of eighth inning.
Diamondbacks’ starter, Collmenter threw seven innings and struck-out four batters with an ERA of 3.38. He permitted two runs, one walk, two home-runs, five hits and two earned runs on his 100 pitches.
As a result, Diamondbacks swept the Giants 3-0 in the three-game series at Arizona.
