Miguel Montero’s four RBIs help Arizona Diamondbacks defeat Florida Marlins 12-9 – MLB Update
Arizona Diamondbacks’ catcher, Miguel Montero displayed an extraordinary performance with the bat as he went 3-for-5 and scored two runs including four RBIs in the Diamondbacks’ 12-9 victory against the Florida Marlins at Sun Life Stadium, Florida on June
13.
The Diamondbacks’ clinched the four-game series 3-1 against the Marlins.
In the first inning, the Diamondbacks’ batters stepped on the gas and blasted four runs to get a 4-0 lead. Justin Upton singled to left-field, Ryan Roberts scored a single run and Kelly Johnson moved to second base. The last three runs during the first inning
were taken by Johnson, Upton and Stephen Drew when Montero doubled to deep right centre-field.
In the second inning, the batters were outclassed by the pitchers and the score-board was unmoved. Third inning went full of score as the Diamondbacks scored five runs while the Marlins opened their scoring account by posting three runs.
Chris Young, Drew, Montero and Roberts each completed a single run in the third inning while Zach Duke hit a one-run homer (380 feet) towards right-field. On the other side, Ricky Nolasco and Emilio Bonifacio both contributed the initial two runs while Omar
Infante posted a single run on the drive of Mike Stanton to centre-field. The score-card moved to 9-3 at the end of third inning.
The Diamondbacks extended their lead during the fourth inning by scoring three runs. Young, Montero and Juan Miranda added three runs for the Diamondbacks. While the Marlins were able to post only one run in the fourth inning when Bonifacio doubled to left-field
and Burke Badenhop added one run. The Diamondbacks were leading 12-4 after the fourth inning.
During the fifth inning, the Marlins’ batters hit three runs to reduce their lead 12-7. Logan Morrison, Gaby Sanchez and Stanton contributed three runs jointly at the bottom of the fifth inning.
The pitchers were on top in the sixth and seventh inning as they did not permit any run. The Marlins posted two runs in the eighth to cut their deficit 12-9. Bonifacio and Infante both scored when John Buck singled to centre-field. The ninth inning passed
score-less for both sides.
Duke was expensive with the ball as he pitched just over four innings with an ERA of 4.56 and gave seven runs on 13 hits with seven earned runs. He struck-out four batters and allowed just one walk on his 110 pitches.
