Miguel Olivo switches to Toronto Blue Jays as John Buck exits
First, thought to be denied an option to continue as a catcher with a salary tag of $2.6 million by the Colorado Rockies, it has now been confirmed that Miguel Olivo has rather been traded to the American League side, Toronto Blue Jays for a ball player, to be named soon. The thought that crossed many observers’ minds was that the experienced Dominican would move to the free agents list but now those considerations have been rubbished.
The Denver Post recently made the news through Twitter and representative reporter, Troy Renck stating that the player, in fact, has moved to the Blue Jays as a replacement for John Buck, who is looking to move away from the team in search of a lucrative, multiyear contract. Miguel will be on the catchers’ roster along with Jose Molina and J.P. Arencibia on the catcher’s roster, come next season.
Despite his age, Miguel Olivo was a dominant figure in the Colorado Rockies line up. His experience was monumental in getting the side to the third ranking position in the National League West. With San Diego Padres and San Francisco Giants racing towards the finish on a neck-to-neck tie, the third seeded team did its best to supersede the competition in the region. Olivo’s catching experience brought a lot of support for the side that had a big mountain to climb along the way to the close of the regular season.
Miguel produced a batting average of .269 and had a slugger rate of .449. The figure was not entirely fulfilling but his presence on the plate gained a lot of confidence from the dugout to influence many fixtures. The average slugger had an on-base position at .315. The player was fluent on the diamond and his contribution was remarkably noted by the coach and the manager. The veteran catcher produced a tally of 14 home runs and 58 Runs Batted In. The effect was notable and considerably taken note of; in total, he had 394 At-Bats and hit 106 times in 112 games during 2010.
