Miguel Olivo’s triple RBIs help Seattle Mariners defeat Chicago White Sox 7-4 – MLB Update
Seattle Mariners’ catcher, Miguel Olivo had a remarkable day as he went 2-for-5 and posted two runs including three RBIs in the Mariners’ 7-4 victory against the Chicago White Sox at U.S. Cellular Field, Chicago on June 8.
It was a series finale and the Mariners avoided the clean sweep with a convincing win to end the three-game series 2-1.
The White Sox scored their first run during the first inning and took a 1-0 lead when Carlos Quentin struck a solo homer (363 feet) towards left-field. No run was added from the second to the fifth inning of the game as the batters played lazy shots and
got out.
The Mariners’ batters opened their sixth inning in an exemplary way as they blasted three runs and went ahead 3-1. Adam Kennedy hit a grounder towards third base, Brendan Ryan posted one run and Justin Smoak got out at second base. The last two runs of the
sixth inning were taken by Kennedy and Carlos Peguero when Franklin Gutierrez doubled to left-field.
In the seventh inning, the White Sox’ batters scored a single run to cut their deficit 3-2. Gordon Beckham singled to left-field, Brent Lillibridge added one run and Ramon Castro advanced to second base.
The game was tied 4-4 in the eighth inning when the Mariners scored one run and the White Sox contributed two runs. Olivo homered (375 feet) to left-field. The Mariners’ manager, Eric Wedge was content with the performance of Olivo and said, “(Olivo) has
always been a guy that's gotten big hits. I've been on the other side against him for a lot of years and he's a step-up kind of guy.”
On the other side, Quentin hit his second homer (401 feet) of the game towards left-field and Alexei Ramirez completed a tie run. The ninth inning passed score-less as the pitchers controlled the winning runs of the batters. Jason Vargas threw superbly as
he pitched just over seven innings with an ERA of 3.94 and permitted three runs on seven hits including three earned runs. He struck-out four batters and gave just one walk on 95 pitches.
Additional 10th inning went in favour of the Mariners as they hit three runs to end the game 7-4. Jack Wilson, Kennedy and Olivo posted the last three runs.
