Miguel Tejada shines as San Francisco Giants defeat St. Louis Cardinals 3-2 – MLB Update
Miguel Tejada put in a brilliant performance as he doubled to centre to help the San Francisco Giants beat the St. Louis Cardinals 3-2 on Saturday, April 9 at AT&T Park in San Francisco.
The Giants had an impressive day as they managed to edge out the Cardinals for a tremendous victory. Tejada managed to get a two run double from Cardinals’ closer Ryan Franklin in the ninth inning which went off the glove of Colby Rasmus.
"It definitely ruined my evening," Rasmus said. "I felt like I got a real good jump on it."
The double gave the Giants an impressive hard fought victory over the mighty St. Louis Cardinals.
Pat Burrell scored in the fifth inning giving the Giants a 1-0 lead. However, in the sixth inning Skip Schumaker tied it up at 1-all. Rasmus hit a tremendous homer in the seventh to give the Cardinals a 2-1 lead.
Franklin had a disappointing day pitching as Buster Posey singled and Burrell was allowed to walk in the ninth inning. Tejada then came in and got the game winning double to take the Giants to a 3-2 score.
"I'm really happy right now," the 36-year-old Tejada said. "I'm going to enjoy the moment. I just need to be aggressive. I'm an aggressive hitter."
The Giants really came together as a team as they beat the Cardinals. The team are showing good early signs of their past season greatness where they managed to win the World Series. Many teams will be looking at the Giants as they surge in the beginning
of the regular season, as a possible sign of things to come.
The Cardinals will be disappointed as a fielding error caused them a loss to the Giants. Jaime Garcia had an impressive day with his pitching as he managed to contain the powerful Giants’ offence.
"I'm happy with the way we're competing but I'm not happy with the results," Cardinals’ manager Tony La Russa said. The Cardinals were right in it for most of the game, as the ball bouncing off Rasmus’ glove was the reason for this close loss.
The Giants will be brimming with confidence as they managed to get an important win over the Cardinals at home. It will be interesting to see how long the Giants will be able to carry their winning momentum into their next match-up. The Cardinals will be
looking to improve their defence and sharpen their fielding for the next game. Both teams are aggressive and their intensity will be defined by their regular season records as they both are looking for a strong season for a secured spot in the post-season.
