Miguel Torres: I desperately wish I could erase my mistake – UFC News
Miguel Torres, Former WEC Champion who was released from the organisation following his controversial twitter joke about rape, recently in an interview expressed how mournful he feels over his social media remarks. Torres, who is scheduled to face Michael
McDonald in a few weeks at UFC 145 in Atlanta, said that he feels extremely disgusted with the whole scenario and he wishes he could erase the mistake from his life.
Talking about the lessons he has learned from his past mistakes, the former champion iterated, “Looking back, what happened was a mistake, and one I desperately wish I could erase. I said something stupid, I was very insensitive, and I paid the price. Thankfully,
at least I'm now aware of just how powerful my words can be and, as a result, will never approach social media in such a carefree manner again.”
After the incident took place, President of UFC Dana White was asked about it in an interview, which made Dana realise how critical it is on part of a UFC fighter to stay away from such sensitive issues. Dana White immediately released Torres as a result
of the incident.
Torres further added, “To be honest, I've always hated social media and have never liked the idea of being involved with Facebook or Twitter. In fact, I only became involved in that world because I felt obligated to do so as every athlete is involved.”
He said that it was never his personal ambition to share his feelings and thoughts with everyone around the globe through social media. Adding more to it, Torres claimed that he has a certain style and personality and that he now realizes that his personality
is not for everyone.
He then mentioned that being separated from UFC was a shock to him and he could not bear it. He said that fighting is his life and that is what he wants to do for the rest of his life. According to him, UFC gave him the chance to prove his mettle and he
wants to be there whenever possible to give his fans what they want to see.
