Miguel Ubeto wins 2b stage as Boris Carene takes overall lead in Guadeloupe 2011 - Cycling News
Gwada Bikers 118 team’s Miguel Ubeto showed a tremendous performance in the 2b stage of Tour Cycliste International de la Guadeloupe 2011 on Sunday, August 7. Boris Carene takes overall leader’s yellow jersey.
The race started in Lamentin and ended in Vieux-Habitant. The 34-year-old Ubeto took the total of 1 hour, 52 minutes and 56 seconds to cover the distance of 80 kilometres.
A few kilometres remaining, the twelve cyclists made their first breakaway including, Miguel Ubeto (Gwada Bikers 118), Willy Roseau (Selection Martinique), Carter Jones (USA U23 National Team), Gregory Blondin (Club Region Guadeloupe) and Ryan Eastman.
All the leading cyclists working well and built a decent lead of few seconds while Carter Jones, Gregory Blondin and Ryan Eastman launched an aggressive attack but failed and Willy Roseau increased his pace and was followed by Ubeto but failed to take a
lead. Ubeto launched an attack and crossed the finish line ahead of the other cyclists.
Willy Roseau of Selection Martinique was runner-up and Carter Jones of USA U23 National finished third with the same timing of Ubeto.
USA U23 National Team’s Andres Newberry showed a good effort and tried his best to catch the leading rider but was unable to hold the pace and secured 13th place with the difference of 2 minutes and 3 seconds ahead of Kazuo Inoue (Bridgestone
Anchor) and Mickael Clarico.
Recently, Ubeto took the overall second place in Tour de la Guadeloupe and also secured first stage of Vuelta al Tachira in 2009. He also grabbed fourth place in the 12th stage of Vuelta a Venezuela.
Gwada Bikers 118 team’s Carene took the overall standing with the timing of 8 hours, 37 minutes and 44 seconds. Masaru Fukuhara was second place with 20 seconds behind Carene.
Klass Sys (Véloce Club Rouen 76) was in third place with the difference of 1 minute ahead of Willy Roseau and Stage winner Miguel Ubeto.
The next stage will start in Lamentin and ended in Petit-Bourg. All the cyclists will cover the distance of 152.7 kilometres.
