The Portugal international is unhappy after his side’s 1-0 loss to Germany.
Paulo Bento’s side are staring failure in the face after slumping to a narrow 1-0 defeat against Joachim Low’s men. Portugal are placed alongside European heavy weights Germany, Netherlands, and minnows Denmark.
After losing to the Germans, A Seleccao face Morten Olsen’s Denmark. The Danes will be full of confidence after shocking an in form Netherlands’ side, and will be hoping to seal their qualification to the next round by either beating
Portugal or holding them for a draw.
In the wake of their defeat by Germany, Miguel Veloso warns his teammates about the consequences of a second successive loss. The midfielder wants his teammates to go for the kill against Denmark, from the first minute.
"Losing is something that we cannot think about. We will enter the game with Denmark with the goal to win the match, just like we always do,” he is quoted as saying in an interview.
Portugal’s midfield was dominated by the two linchpins in DFB eleven’s central midfield, Sami Khedira and Bastian Schweinsteiger. Veloso was outclassed by his German counterparts as they did not let a single pass go astray.
Paulo Bento’s men were blamed for being a bit too defensive than usual. In Veloso’s opinion his side were showed their opponents the respect they deserved and defended well against them, which are important aspects of the modern
game.
"I do not agree, but I respect those opinions. We were humble and we respected Germany, who are a great side, and defending is also part of football,” he added.
The 26-year old midfielder, who plies his trade in Italy with Bologna, could be replaced in favour of a more offensive player like Hugo Viana. Veloso has been a subject of heavy criticism from the media in his home country.
The game against Denmark will be crucial for Paulo Bento’s side. Portugal have enough quality in their ranks but Seleccao have to utilize this to their advantage. Unlike the game against Germany, the Iberian side have to keep their
