Mihael Vukic and Sycerika McMahon shine on day one of the European Long Course Junior Championships
Day one of the 2011 European Long Course Junior Championships commenced in stunning style in Belgrade, Serbia, on Thursday, July 7, 2011. The first session conducted several events where Mihael Vukic won the Men’s 50m butterfly meet, whereas, Sycerika McMahon
snared the Women’s 50m breast-stroke race.
In another meet, Donata Klijanska captured the Women’s 800m freestyle crown in dominating fashion.
Mihael Vukic of Croatia secured the Men’s 50m butterfly title in 23.90 seconds. His scintillating performance moved him to the 20th place in the international swimming rankings of the current year.
Meanwhile, Yevgen Koptyelov of Ukraine wound up second in 24.50 seconds and Matthias Bellance of France rounded out the top three in 24.56 seconds. Vitaliy Alpatov finished fourth in 24.78 seconds, while Martino Lucatello earned fifth place honours in a
time of 24.85 seconds. Dmitry Kuleshov was placed sixth in 24.93 seconds and Andrey Tambovskiy settled seventh in 24.94 seconds. Marius Kusch wound up eighth in 24.99 seconds.
In the second event, Sycerika McMahon of Ireland captured the Women’s 50m breast-stroke meet with a winning time of 32.00 seconds. Anna Sztankovics of Hungary wound up second in 32.02 seconds, whereas, Jenna Laukkanen of Finland earned third place honours
in 32.11 seconds.
Elizaveta Bazarova finished fourth in 32.24 seconds and Sarah Vaisse earned fifth place honours in 32.67 seconds. Danielle Lowe grabbed sixth spot in 32.79, whereas, Julia Willers was placed seventh in 32.82 seconds. Elisa Antonelli wound up eighth in 33.16
seconds.
Donata Klijanska of Poland won the Women’s 800m freestyle crown with a winning time of 8 minutes and 40.48 seconds, whereas, Esmee Vermeulen of Netherlands earned silver in 8 minutes and 43.56 seconds. Rachael Williamson of Great Britain snared the bronze
medal in 8 minutes and 44.10 seconds.
Maria Vidal Vilas wound up fourth in 8 minutes and 47.27 seconds, whereas, Federica Lele earned fifth place honours in a time of 8 minutes and 48.66 seconds. Giulia Gabbrielleschi settled sixth in 8 minutes and 48.82 seconds, while Maria Garcia Borrella
finished seventh in 8 minutes and 49.57 seconds.
