Mihail Alexandrov secures Men’s 100m breaststroke gold – US Open Swimming Championships
Mihail Alexandrov of Trojan Swim Club secured gold medal of the Men’s 100m breaststroke on fourth day of the 2012 US Open Swimming Championships at Indiana University Natatorium in Indianapolis on Friday, August 10.
The 27-year-old Alexandrov devastated hopes of his opponents by capturing gold medal of the two-lap discipline. He remained prominent over his challengers throughout the 100m discipline and occupied the crown of the discipline.
Alexandrov continued his nerve-wrecking form throughout the event and reached the medal rostrum for gold medal with a timing of 1 minute and 00.03 seconds.
His gruelling pace remained 0.44 seconds ahead of Kevin Cordes of University of Arizona, who proved his mettle for silver medal of the discipline by completing his swim in a time of 1 minute and 00.47 seconds.
Cordes was followed by Cody Miller of Indiana University, who stayed half body length behind and accomplished bronze medal of the discipline by producing a time of 1 minute and 01.11 seconds.
Similarly, Miller was trailed by John Criste of Trojan Swim Club, who was only 0.26 seconds slower from his former finisher and posted a time of 1 minute and 01.37 seconds for fourth position.
Criste was chased by Matthew Elliott of Peoria Area-IL, who remained prominent for fifth fastest spot of the race and touched the wall with an effort of 1 minute and 01.75 seconds.
Elliott enjoyed a benefit of 0.14 seconds over Bernard Johnson of Palo Alto Stanford, who succeeded in securing sixth fastest spot of the event by producing a time of 1 minute and 01.89 seconds.
Johnson was followed by Nicolas Fink of Cougar Aquatic Team, who was 0.19 seconds behind and concluded his swim in a time of 1 minute and 02.08 seconds for seventh position.
Fink was traced by Russell Smith of Great Britain, who failed to upset any of his challengers and cruised his way towards the finishing blockade as eighth fastest finisher with a timing of 1 minute and 02.40 seconds.
In addition, Alexandrov was delighted with his notable victory in the event and said that he would try hard to win in future events.
