Mika Miyazato drops to the 17th spot in world rankings
Japanese Mika Miyazato, who is performing well in the current season, had to face some disappointment after she tumbled one spot to stand at the 17th position in the Women’s World Golf Rankings.
According to the details, the major reason behind Miyazato’s drop in ranking is fellow Japanese Chie Arimura. Arimura successfully defended her title at the Stanley Ladies 2012 — a tournament co-sanctioned by the Japan LPGA (Ladies professional Golf Association) Tour.
Miyazato, who has proved herself as a rising star on the LPGA Tour, has not been rattled by the new development that has seen her fall one spot in the world rankings, but the star golfer will have make an extra effort to regain her lost position.
Arimura, who displayed a stunning performance at the Stanley Ladies 2012, jumped three spots to reach the 16th position in the Women’s World Golf Rankings. It is expected that she will further improve her position by performing well on the Japan LPGA Tour.
Analysts said that another threat, in the form of Arimura, has emerged and it has become increasingly crucial for the top-ranked contenders to further consolidate their positions.
Taiwanese Yani Tseng has maintained her position at the top spot, and it seems unlikely that any player will be able to rattle her in the near future.
Although Miyazato has not been able to record any victory on the LPGA Tour, however, she has proved her mettle on the Japan Tour, as she won the Japan Women’s Open in October 2010.
The young star performed amazingly well at the US Women’s open 2012, as she finished tied for the seventh position on the leaderboard after she fired an overall 291.
Analysts said that posting a solid score in the third major tournament of the season has reflected that Miyazato is keen to move ahead, and it is expected that upcoming tournaments will see another solid performance from her.
The Evian Masters 2012, which is going to be held from July 26-29, in France, can provide Miyazato with plenty of opportunities, and she can regain her lost position in the world rankings.
The upcoming tournament will feature a strong field, which means that the Japanese professional will have to make all-out efforts to remain in contention.
