Mika Miyazato improves her world ranking after US Women's Open

Japanese Mika Miyazato, who showed a stellar game in the US Women’s Open 2012 and finished tied for the seventh position on the leaderboard, has risen to the 16th in the Women’s World Golf Rankings.
Mika is a rising star on the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association), and her near-flawless performance in the US Women’s Open 2012 has helped her boost her position in the world rankings.
The Japanese prodigy started the major event of the current season in a stunning style, as she scored an overall 291.
She not only had to confront battle-hardened LPGA stars like Stacy Lewis and Yani Tseng, but also sweltering heat that made it extremely hard to stay focused on the game. Yet she performed better than her fans had anticipated.
Mika appeared to be in a comfortable position and shot perfect putts on most of the holes. The tournament was held at the prestigious Kohler and pitted big names against each other.
Some of the key contenders included Paula Creamer, Shanshan Feng, Na Yeon Choi, Cristie Kerr, Suzann Pettersen, Ai Miyazato, Lexi Thompson, Azahara Munoz, Brittany Lang, Recari Beatriz, Nicole Castrale and Amy Yang.
Mika failed to sideline Choi, who won the title after shooting an overall 281. However, she came close to beating the top five contenders of the tournament and impressed the spectators.
Analysts said it is a great success for the young Japanese to improve her position in the Women’s World Golf Rankings, but she will have to focus on her weak points such as putting and swing.
Speaking to the media about how she faced strong rivals in a tournament that usually grabs attention, Mika said that she is happy to find herself in this position, and realizes that she will have to work harder if she really wants to be on top of women’s golf.
Other contenders who have been able to improve their rankings following the US Women’s Open includes German Sandra Gal. Gal has now risen to the 29th position in the Women’s World Golf Rankings.
Another rising contender who saw her ranking go up is Se Ri Pak. Pak currently ranks 32nd.
