Mika Miyazato keeps hopes alive, but tough times ahead
Japanese Mika Miyazato, who did not rank among big names in women’s golf a couple of months back, has now emerged as one of the most charismatic players as she recently clinched her first Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) title at the Safeway Classic 2012.
Miyazato has proved her mettle on the Tour — and she has set the ball rolling by racking up her maiden title but the coming tournaments will be crucial for her pro career. So far, the Japanese star has avoided making too many mistakes. Although she lost plenty of good chances to record good finishes in some of the recent tournaments, overall, her performance has been above average.
Given the tough field at the Safeway Classic 2012, held at Pumpkin Ridge Golf Course, Ghost Creek Golf Course, Oregon, Miyazato remained strong throughout the four days of the tournament and did what her fans had expected her to do.
With the Kingsmill Championship 2012 slated to be played from September 6-9, at Williamsburg, Kingsmill Resort, River Course, Virginia, Miyazato will now have to keep an eye on her rivals eager to topple her from her position in world rankings.
Despite winning her first pro title at the Safeway Classic, the Japanese prodigy has slipped one spot to stand at 11th in the Women’s World Golf Rankings. The reason behind a slump in world ranking is that her rivals have been able to perform well in some of the recent tournaments. More importantly, Miyazato’s own performance in the CN Canadian Women’s Open 2012, held at Vancouver last week.
The LPGA titan shot an overall score of 285 at the CN Canadian Women’s Open 2012 to finish tied for the 15th position along with six other contenders.
Speaking to the media at the end of Safeway Classic 2012, Miyazato had said that when she was getting closer to winning the prestigious tournament, the only thing on her mind was gaining more confidence.
“Like everybody say you're very close to the win, but I don't think the win, win because more pressure on me.  So it's couple like six, seven events I played and like more confidence in my golf game,” the professional golfer said.
