Mika Miyazato seeks to repeat ShopRite Classic performance at Wegmans LPGA Championship
Japanese Mika Miyazato, who finished tied for the third at the ShopRite LPGA Classic last week, is seeking to repeat her stunning performance at the Wegmans LPGA Championship, scheduled to start from June 7-10, at Pittsford, New York.
Miyazato displayed a stunning performance last week, proving her critics wrong. She played among some of the best contenders on the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) and kept her cool through most of the final day.
The concluding round posed a little challenge to the Japanese star, yet she managed to post a decent 68.
Analysts said that Miyazato has what it takes to trouble big names, as she just showed in a prestigious tournament last week.
They said that the player has been training hard on the practice range, which has helped her improve her putting and swing.
According to the details, the field at Wegmans LPGA Championship is going to be tougher than the previous years, with the participation of most of the top-ranked players.
Some of the big names include the current world number one Yani Tseng, Suzann Pettersen, Katherine Hull of Australia, American Paula Creamer, Lexi Thomson, Ai Miyazato, Lorie Kane, Meena Lee, Mindy Kim, Aussie Karrie Webb and Stacy Lewis, who won the ShopRite
LPGA Classic 2012.
Golf commentators said that Miyazato will have to make all-out efforts to prove her worth. They said that her resilience in the last event reflected that the Japanese golfer is eager to prove her mettle in professional events.
Turning professional in 2008, Miyazato has racked up one professional victory. She grabbed attention when she won the Japan Women’s Open — an event co-sanctioned by the LPGA of Japan Tour.
Commentators said that if Miyazato manages to score big in the first two rounds, she can put pressure on her rivals.
They said that the weather conditions are forecast to remain calm, something players will capitalise on in order to post good scores.
Speaking to the media at the end of ShopRite LPGA Classic 2012, the j*p said that she loves a huge crowd, as it keeps her motivated.
“I want more of a crowd. That makes me more comfortable. Yeah. Like the 18th hole (at the ShopRite Classic),” Miyazato said.
