Considering his recent good performances, Mikael D'haguenet, can easily be rated as the favourite.
The eight-year-old gelding is coming into this race after three back-to-back victories.
After an extraordinary show in 2009, Mikael D'haguenet, lost his rhythm and failed to produce anything special in the following two years.
However, W. P. Mullins’ trainee seems to have regained his winning momentum. After registering two classy wins at the end of last year, the gelding kept the good work going and sealed an excellent win on January 21, 2012.
Limestone Lad Hurdle saw him topping the chart by a staggering seven lengths.
With three consecutive triumphs under his belt, it will be very difficult for the bookies to ignore, Mikael D'haguenet’s obvious chances.
Another participant who has decent chances to thrive is, Mikael D'haguenet’s stable mate, Mourad.
Without a shadow of doubt, the seven-year-old holds class and quality to do well against any sort of line-up.
However, victories seem to have dried up for him, as his previous win came way back in January 2011.
On January 28, he participated in the Grade 2 Rewards4Racing Cleeve Hurdle, where he was outsmarted by Paul Nicholls’s Big Buck's.
In his last outing, the gelding was not fluent, however, Navan’s track is expected to favour Mourad.
He will be ridden by P. Townend – a veteran jockey who has a number of big titles to his credit.
Rick will also fancy his chances in this exciting event. The eight-year-old was unable to do anything special last year.
Yet, he started off this year with a very decent performance, clinching second slot in the Limestone Lad Hurdle, where he was defeated by Mikael D'haguenet.
D. T. Hughes’ trainee will look for redemption, and grab his first victory of the season. Out of his 15 outings over hurdles, the exciting gelding came out as winner on three occasions.
Final Prediction
Mikael D'haguenet is most likely to dominate the proceedings. He will definitely be the one to look out for, but Mourad and Rick can spur up a surprise.
