Mikael Lundberg banks on his experience at the M2M Russian Open – Golf news
Mikael Lundberg is set to be featured in this week’s M2M Russian Open, an event that saw him securing victories in the 2005 and 2008 editions.
The tournament will be staged at the stunning Tseleevo Golf and Polo Club, featuring some of the best European Tour players from different parts of the world.
Lundberg, who calls Russia as his second home, is confident to continue his love affair with the event that is returning to the European Tour after a five-year absence. This also means that Russia is hosting a European Tour event after five years.
Talking to the European Tour’s official website, he said that he did not know why he plays so well in Russia. Yet, he believes that he will be able to contend strongly each time he returns to Russia for the prestigious tournament.
“Obviously you never really know the reasons why you play well in a certain country or a certain place because if we knew the answer to that question we would play to our best ability every week,” said Lundberg. “But there is definitely something special
about Russia that brings out the best in me. Well, it certainly has done in the past and I have to say that this week I feel good and feel confident so I don’t think it is a co-incidence.”
Talking about the venue course, he said that the course where he secured his victories is no more the venue course for the event this year. However, this will not affect his chances as Tseleevo is also a magnificent golf course where he can play at his best.
“There are similar feelings for me around this place and I have to say that Tseleevo is just a magnificent golf course,” he added.
At the same time, Lundberg also accepted that apart from his strong record in the event, he will also have to play well throughout the four rounds and post good scores in order to finish on top of the leaderboard once again. Otherwise, victory is something
that cannot be awarded on past record in a particular event.
