Mike Alvarado gives up WBC Super Lightweight belt in support of Timothy Bradley – Boxing news
Mike ‘Mike High’ Alvarado has given up his World Boxing Council Continental Americas Light Welterweight Championship belt, as he is not happy with the organisation’s decision to strip off Timothy Bradley’s Super Lightweight belt.
Moreover, he is also not happy upon being moved down the WBC rankings constantly even though he never lost any of his fights.
The 31-year-old American pugilist, Alvarado, who has won all of his 30 professional fights including 22 by the way of a knockout, was looking for a title shot against the Desert Storm, Timothy Bradley but since Bradley has been stripped off his title, Alvarado
feels his dream has been ruined.
Alvarado was also furious as WBC has constantly lowered down his rankings even when he has never been defeated. He stated the way WBC is doing everything he will be out of the world ranking by Christmas.
Alvarado, who was scheduled for his title defence on Saturday, July 30, 2011, said he has had enough with the organisation and he is giving up his title along with the sanctioned fee purse. He remarked he will now join a new organisation.
While speaking on his inclusion, he said, “The WBC rated me No. 7 in May, No. 8 in June, and No. 10 in July. At this rate, if I keep on winning, I could be out of the WBC's top 20 by Christmas.”
“I wanted to earn a title shot at the WBC's super lightweight world champion Timothy Bradley and they just stripped him of the title for no valid reason. So I'm doing the logical thing, I'm stripping their title belt from my waist and their sanction fee
from my purse. I'll continue my quest for a world title through one of the other sanctioning organizations,” he said.
According to WBC secretary general, the Cathedral City’s fighter, Bradley, has been stripped off his titles for not being active since his last win over Devon Alexander in January 2011. However, WBC rules indicate a boxer can have 9 or 11 months time to
defend his title.
Let’s see if WBC reconsiders its decision or not.
